Cinestill 50D is repackaged Kodak Vision 3 50D (aka Kodak 5203/7203) color negative motion picture film. Cinestill is buying Vision 3 50D film from Kodak and removing the rem-jet backing which is present on most motion picture films to allow the film to be easily processed by any lab in C-41 chemistry. The remjet removed is also the reason for the red halo effect (halation) that you see quite often on Cinestill Film stocks. Just thought I’d clear that up. Feel free to watch my Cinestill Film Stock Guide on my channel that goes SUPER in depth on this.

Correction: it's not just repackaged Kodak Vision. Cinestill is making a SIGNIFICANT modification to the film itself by removing the REMJET layer so the film can be processed as normal C41 film rather than the ECN2 process required by Kodak Vision. Removing the REMJET layer results in highlight halation - so it's just plain wrong to insinuate that a photographer will get similar visual results to any of the cinema movies shot on Kodak Vision.

I have tons of other videos on my channel explaining the history of CineStill, remjet layer removal, halation, and etc. I mentioned you potentially getting similar results when shooting with other CineStill film that also has the remjet layer removed. Thanks for the comment. 👍🏿
