I definitely need to go back! I did a day trip from Milan once in the middle of January. I had the whole place to myself. But man, it’s stunning. Also, Scott, you’re a hero man.

Ha! Thank you.. No hero here. just trying to help when I can 😀...That January trip must have been really cool! Was it a ghost town?
@mylayoverlife
Жыл бұрын
It was a total ghost town. There was literally only a couple restaurants open in Riomaggiore. I tried walking to the next town but the trail was closed so I took the train and Vernazza was pretty dead too. Still a super special place.

Its an year old video, but i am glad i found it. Going there in july 2024. And would like to do the hike, but do not want to carry heavy shoes. Could you please share what Collette was wearing to hike. I was searching for casual looking cute shoes with good grip which will go with pants, skirts, dress. But found none. My feet are really big 9.5, so always looking for slim looking shoes.

Wow this guide is amazing! As a local host I also suggest reaching cinque terre by plane directly to Genoa from the US. Major European carriers like KLM, Lufthansa and ITA (Alitalia) fly to Genoa with multiple flights a day. You can easily fly to Genova via the major European hub (Amsterdam, Munich/Frankfurt, Rome). I'm telling you this because from Milan Malpensa it's a 1hr train to Milan central station, then a train to Genoa which is a bit less than 2 hrs and then another train to the cinque terre which is 1-1,5hr. I see tourists arriving exhausted from a long-haul flight and then having to take 3 trains for 5 hrs it's a lot of stress, especially because of the connections. If you fly into Genoa it's just a 1-1.5 hr train to the Cinque Terre and you can also stop in Genoa and Portofino for a few days which are beautiful as well. Thanks for the video and we hope to see you again here in Liguria soon!

What a gorgeous place - now I know where the great Pixar film, Luca, was “filmed!” It’s sad that you have to pay for a hiking trail. In the uk, all footpaths are free. And, those waves were scary - did Scott have some explaining to do when he got back? ;)

We just visited Cinque Terre on an excursion from a cruise. It was so beautiful and I’m so enamored by the villages. I think I like them more than the Amalfi coast. Less commercial and just special in its own way. Now, I’m binging videos after the fact. Wish I had seen this before, but to be honest, I refrained from watching videos of the locations so I could have a genuine first time expertience and be surprised. It was worth it from that aspect! Now, I can’t stop watching videos. I even watched Pixar’s Luca as the tour guid said Vernazza was the city they used for Luca.

@@allisonstewart316 short answer, no ... We hadn't heard of the lemon festival for next May. We are going to watch some of the Giro d'Italia (it's a professional bike race) in that area while we are in Italy. If there is a lemon festival, I assure you that we will be all over it. 👍

I'm going as a solo travel next week over Easter for 4 nights, and definitely want to be active and hike. Would you say the views were better in one direction / town going towards another? I'm also staying in Monterosso but wondering if it's better to hike down to Vernazza or if the views in the opposite direction are nicer. Did you guys visit any of the vinyards! Thanks 🥰 adi
