I was just saying this in another comment chain! Like for sure its melee cantrips are awesome, Primal Savagery is probably the best close-range cantrip that doesn't require a weapon, and thorn whip and shillelagh are both great as well, but Produce Flame is terrible for attacking and I'll fight anyone who disagrees. I guess its nice to have the spell because it can work as an attack OR light source, but still.

The druids spell list is kinda fucked a ton. The majority of their list are concentration spells, and fucks them over in trying to do combat things. I feel that's why people wanted to get fireball for druid so badly, because it lacks some consistent non-concentration damage.

@@saber5694 its a concentration tax on holding your spells until the spirit can get in range of a target. If the spirit shared your turn, you could instead have it move first to get into range, then cast a spell through it.

It’s really cool that they incorporate the big pine cone in the wild fire art. In North and South Carolina the large pine forest areas actually require fire for the biome to grow properly. Which maybe a thing for other types of trees and such but I know it’s a thing for the pine areas there and multiple times a year the county will have controlled fires in the areas to help nature function well. Since u know random uncontrolled wildfires tend to be rather bad.

Druids are the least consistent, Land and Spore Druids only get Additional Prepared Spells for 2nd-5th level spells, but the Wildfire Druid gets them for 1st-5th. The other Druid subclasses do not get additional spells. Personally I wish they were more consistent overall with spellcasting. I think Paladins should have Spells Known since they are a Cha spellcaster, but since Divine they get 10 additional Oath spells, like how a Cleric is Divine but get 10 additional Domain spells. I think Rangers should have been a Prepared spellcaster since they are a Wis spellcaster, and gotten 5 additional spells since they get their powers from Nature. I think Druids should have followed the same trend only getting 5 additional spells but all subclasses should have gotten them. I would have made Land Druids the exception getting 10 additional spells.

I like that if you have an ally go down just out of your reach, you can hold cure wounds with your action and tell the wildfire spirit to teleport somewhere with your bonus action and then heal them without needing to reposition yourself.

Almost all of the changes to Wildfire have ruined my plans for it. I was planning on a Fire Genasi Wildfire Druid / Storm barbarian that focused on using AoE attacks with themselves in the radius, utilizing their resistance (and eventual immunity). The reductions in the lv.2 and 14 feature's damages and the lack of firebolt and fireball just make this less appealing now :(

Idk I feel like Wildfire is still pretty strong --- A Tiefling with the Flames of Phlegethos feat allows them to reroll any Fire Dice rolls of '1' . That could be very amazing with Flame Blade from Druid, and all the additional Fire spells with this new Circle.

I am going with a Red Dragonborn for Fire Resistance and Fire Breath, the Elemental Adept Feat (Fire focus) to Reroll 1s AND overcome Fire Resistance on other enemies, and taking the Produce Flame cantrip for a light source and some ranged damage. swapping to shillelaghla and my quarterstaff when I am in close combat, though Ideally I’ll stay at a distance and command my spirit for most damage output. I could take another feat to take some Cleric cantrips like Sacred Flame or Toll the Dead as well, sincs the currwnt build has maxed out Wisdom.

@@phobiawitch835 Oh nice, the only reason I said Tiefling is because instead of Rerolls of 1s into 2s per Elemental Adept, they just get to reroll any 1's as much as they want into anything above 2. Tieflings get Fire resistance already, not Fire Breath though haha.

I dont know what your level cap or your class distribution is, but may I recommend looking at the celestial warlock, to replace the wild fire druid? You still do not get fireball. But you still get increase to fire damage and the death explosion.

I changed some things for my homebrew game. First of all, the spells. Level 2 you gain Fire Bolt and Burning Hands. 3, Pyrotechnics and Scorching Ray. 5, Fireball and Revivify. 7, Aura of Life and Fire Shield. 9, Flame Strike and Immolation. Finally, I added back the AoE effect of the Blazing Revival but kept the sacrifice of the Spirit. I want my players to have fun with fire gosh darnit!

I'll be playing this subclass in our side campaign starting tonight. I remade the subclass in DNDBeyond to match my character. All of the mechanics are the same, but all the features and spells are now water based instead of fire. Should be fun!

An important note that Mr. Immersion missed with the change from Flames of Life to Cauterizing Flames: Originally, you used your reaction to create the flames, then there was no action required to have them have an effect. Now, whenever a creature dies within range, you can create the fire at no action required, but it requires a reaction to damage/heal a creature that touches the flames. This is important because you used to have to use up your limited uses (using your reaction has always been when a use was expended, not the act of forming the magical fire) without knowing for certain who would touch the flames or when, or even if they would. Now, you can set it up for use at no cost, then only expend a limited use when the flames come in handy. Also, the flames used to automatically activate whether you wanted them to or not. For example, you might be fighting a devil with fire immunity, and if it passed through the flames, you didn't have the option to keep them there and use them to heal a teammate later. Now you can do that. It's a subtle but very important change.

The Fiery Teleportation is sooo good now! The teleportation itself can now be used to constantly give your entire party a free DAMAGING disengage. Perfect for hit-and-run tactics + your note on that it is now also very usable for out-of-combat situations is definitely a massive boon to have. Personally, I like the tradeoff of it being less damaging overall, but getting more utility in return. Also, the art having almost painterly quality like some of the Final Fantasy games is amazing, and I definitely do agree how amazing it looks!

I think the out of combat utility is very limited since 15 feet is not very far and many characters can jump that distance. The lack of uses/cooldown is great and it makes it a good Disengage option, but the damage is pitiful, I think they should have increased the damage to the teleport, to dissuade enemies from wanting to get too close to the Wildfire Spirit, especially since their HP was nerfed and they lost their Saving Throw proficiencies.

The buff from 1d6+2 to 1d6+pb is already nice, but generally more scaling to Wildfire Spirit, the damn friggin mechanic of the class, on higher levels would've been better in my opinion. Making it 1d6+Wisdom modifier would've already worked, or at 10th level or so upgrade the damage die to a 1d8 or 2d6 or the like. It has some REALLY nice tools it gets at 10th and 14th, don't get me wrong, but that sliiight bump in damage output would make sure it stays a viable attack option at higher levels instead of a liability.

Revivify is also on the druid spell list now isn't it? Which makes it's inclusion less exciting cause you can prep it anyway. Honestly I'm really disappointed about fireball. Wildfire druid still have the flavor down pat, but part of the mechanical appeal was having a good aoe damage spell (and a better ranged attack cantrip).

I just wish they would give the druid some Non-Concentraion firepower. Having played a druid, it sucks casting a spell to deal with an enemy, only to have to drop it immediately because the enemy used its movement to move out of my AOE, which is all I got to deal some actual damage before Blight. The fact a lot of the good lower level damage spells are already elemental themed, like Lightning Bolt, and aren't on the Druid's list really blows. I hope we get like, a Storm Druid that has Lightning Bolt and make thunderclouds at-will so that Call Lightning can deal its enhanced damage.

I don't mind the missing Fireball. Burning Hands and Cure Wounds being auto-learned upon reaching level 2 is amazing, they're two of the most useful spells you can learn at that level. Scorching ray is a suitable replacement for Fireball, the damage is comparable and can be concentrated or spread.

Well the UA did already get Scorching Ray but new one gets Flaming Sphere. Which I think is fine as a replacement that fits more with the theme/flavor of the subclass than just dropping a nuke on people. The loss of Fire Bolt is much more annoying to me; Produce Flame is fine, but the fact that it's range is Self means it doesn't synergize with the 6th level ability allowing you to cast it from your Spirit's location.

@@Mrryn Looked at it again, yea you're right. They replaced Fireball with Revivify and added the level 1 spells, and also replaced locate plants/animals with fire sphere. Fire Sphere was already a druid spell, but automatic preparing is always a plus. Either way, yea I agree its a shame.

Blazing Endurance is amazingly OP. No need to sacrifice your flame spirit, 70 temporary hit points at level 14, and a fire AOE that deals unblocked 2d10 + 14 (25 average) to anybody you want once you acquire the feature. This is better than most healing spells and that fire AOE is about just as powerful as a fireball with greater range and no friendly fire (pun unintended). So, yeah, I can see why it was nerfed, but I wish they kept the fire splash damage. Maybe reduce the range to 10 feet and/or reduce the damage to be lower. Maybe have it be just based on your druid level or have it be a saving throw with reduced damage on a save.

Pretty sad to see the loss of fireball and the change to capstone ability. However, one interesting thing to note is the buff on the 10th lvl ability, originally someone had to touch the body of a creature the ability was on but now that whoever only has to enter into their space triggering your reaction allies wouldn't have to potentially burn their action to receive the heal making it much more viable as an ability.

8:46 Yes it does get your proficiency bonus it's just written weird. On the stat block after "Languages" it has "Challenge - Proficiency Bonus (PB) equals your bonus" however I don't know if that applies to saving throws.

I doesn’t apply to saving throws, the reason that that part is listed is for things like damage that does use your proficiency bonus, they put the shorthand there to make it easier to understand rather than writing “your proficiency bonus” over and over again

it really REALLY frustrating wanting to play something for a oneshot and a DM says no. I wanted to play Onomancy but the DM said no and wet on a rant about UA is broken adn there was a player who played olympian class and found out she ment reddit UA so I tried to make her understand the difference between UA and /rUA and she wasnt having it I almost build my hair out ! and now Ona mancy is not cannon so no chance to play that.

Regardless of not getting Fire Bolt or Fireball, I love this subclass just the same. You still get good fire spells, a cool little summon, and neat abilities. I feel like the point of not getting Fireball is that you create controlled environments to burn and are a bit smarter to not get all goofy with Fireballs like everyone wants to. Just cuz it's called Wildfire doesn't mean you should be a pyromaniac. Plus, if your DM isn't a jerk, you can still have ways to use Fireball. Staff of Fire, Necklace of Fireballs, Ring of Spell Storing, Wand of Fireballs, etc. I do have one complaint though: if Wildfire Druids don't get Fire Bolt, the Fire Spirit's Flame Seed attack should at least deal Fire Bolt dmg. But it's actually less powerful than a Produce Flame cantrip and doesn't scale. Missed opportunity there.

The 2nd level Summon Wildfire feature is a good example of a subclass feature that should scale. I think the damage when summoned should be 2d6 and increase by 1d6 every time the Druids Proficiency Bonus increases. It costs a Wild Shape, takes an Action, had it's HP nerfed and removed it's Saving Throw Proficiencies, with Fireball removed from the spell list this should act as a mini-Fireball when conjured. I also think the Fiery Teleportation should deal more damage, it should be 2d10 and have the 10 ft. radius to match the initial Summon Wildfire. The creature needs something to disincentive enemies from wanting to get into melee with it.

The reason for the Raise Dead change is I believe because druids got that as part of their expanded spell list in this book (I don't have the book so I can't confirm it, but it is what I remember from your coverage and other snippets)

TBH i am okay with losing fireball in place of getting 2 extra lvl 1 spells, but not happy. i am upset over is loving firebolt. druid ranged cantrips are bad overall for a full caster. i am running this druid now and my DM has said to me and the swarm ranger that we can get the UA versions if we want for this game but once they die no more UA version in their games. but with this game we will not last long it is an Icewind Dale game i almost died once already and we got close to a TPK if we did not trust one thing we encountered already (i hope i did not say enough to get people to mete game it but i think i was veg enough.)

My thoughts... Summon Wildfire Spirit: It's an elemental pet, so I enjoy this a lot. Enhanced Bond: It turns your pet into a Pact of the Chain familiar, so it just becomes that much more utilitarian. Cauterizing Flames: I can understand why they decided to limit it to your reaction, nut since they changed it to include you and your companion, it feels fine over all. Blazing Revival: I have to agree with what Ted said Final thoughts: Over all it seems like a fun and dynamic class, but I will be letting my players get access to the damaging side from the UA

currently playing a wildfire druid, i honestly dont mind the fireball removal, its OP simple as that. its a subclass that gets better fire damage in later levels and for a party that has a passive healer and damage dude its still awesome. Take elemental adept and bypass those resistance, and hold action and cast spells on your spirits turns. when the enemy is immune to fire then time for some battlefield control spells. EZ

A Dragon Druid would be amazing. Maybe give them unique Draconic choices when they use their Wild Companion feature.

Honestly I am not a big fan of druid in general, however I really loved the flavor of Circle of Spores and absolutely love the Wildfire. I actually like that they *didn't* include fireball since I am one of the people who is somewhat bored of fireball being the ""only good 3rd level aoe spell", yes it's good and it was made bit unbalanced, but I love both seeing and using something else for a change. However I feel like they should have kept the access to firebolt

I preferred unearthed arcana, I will honestly retire my druid asap. She was designed as someone whose grove was burned to the ground with her in it, causing her to be reborn as the fire druid looking for some vengeance against the one who did it but most of the stuff she did relied on fireball and firebolt. She had anger issues and would sometimes just launch the fireballs at random bad guys or npc's who pissed her off and now that aspect of her has to be erased.

Design wise you can split druids into two archetypes. Casters and melee. Circle of the moon obviously is melee. Stars is also a melee. But Land/spores/wildfire is very much a caster focus. So the caster subclasses of druids get extra spells. And the melee subclasses get some kind of extra power that supplements their wildshape.

I fail to see how you classify Stars druids as melee when they get free casts of Guiding Bolt and a form where two-thirds of its mechanics (both of its combat mechanics) are all about either attacking from range or enhancing/spreading your healing from range. Also what about the Shepherd or Dreams druids? Just seems to me like inconsistency and Moon being an exception to druid subclasses all being different flavors of ranged caster, rather than the rule.

@@Mrryn Sure. Should have used "spell" vs "wildshape" focus. Stars is very much a wildshape focused class if not melee. You get either a buff to wildshape or a buff to casting. Both would be unbalanced.

The UA wild fire druid 14th ability sounded like the celestial warlock 14th ability. That's probably what they changed it. Celestial warlock: when you make a death save, you heal to half of your hit points and deal radiant damage to those around you and those are blinded. (Summarizing)

As someone who likes to give important enemies classes I like the "villainous" sub-classes the druid was a bit short on options with spores being the darkest while land and moon are more neutral wildfire can easily work for a maniacal druid who hates civilization and wants it to return to nature with fire a LOT of fire.

I have been looking for a Class/sub-class to reskin as a Necrobotany type character. I wonder if changing all of the fire damage to Necrotic would be balanced.

Hmmm... Wildfire Spirit is available for an hour, and no limit on the teleport. Can travel for 9000 feet that way. Of course, there's the *minor* drawback of the fact that you're going to leave a minor trail of destruction behind you. Also on Blazing Revival - you do have to have your spirit out already, whereas the UA version didn't require that. And while you do get actual healing, the UA gave you twice as much temp HP and damage. Automatically rising to your feet may or may not be a bonus depending on whether or not you were on your feet before hitting 0 HP, but is a nice addition that will probably save someone from immediately going down again some times.

Hmm, the fireball thing is a disappointment. But I still really like this subclass. I agree, the artwork is really evocative for some reason, flipping through the book when I saw it I stopped and was like "what is this" it immediately made me want to play the class.

Ok here me out - A 10 yr old VHuman, Elemental Affinity (Fire), Far traveler or folk hero background, when you use your fire spirit make its form a small lizard with a flame tipped tail. When you use a spell you cast it using the spirit saying " use !"

I played this during the UA and it definitely felt underwhelming. I’m EXTREMELY upset we left the campaign off at level 4 so I never even got to cast fireball😭. I’m going to give it one more go level 1-13. Will probably start off moon then explode one day once I get to them good features.

I don't know people aren't talking about your Wildfire spirit makes ranged weapon attacks with a range of 60 ft. so you have disadvantage on your attack rolls if it's within 5 ft. of your Wildfire spirit so you cannot use it as a tank and a damage dealer.

While I cannot disagree with any of the changes they made to the Wildfire Druid, it doesn't mean I like them. One of my current characters is a Wildfire Druid and we started our campaign back in July. So it was still just play test content at the time but the dm was cool with it. We agreed that when the book came out we'd follow the changes. Since the changes made it to where I wasn't a blaster anymore I asked about switching my level 4 asi for a feat and got the Shadow Touched Feat. It made my character feel complete again, so I'm keeping the character. Also not having to prepare Cure Wounds and Revivify is definitely a biiig +.

I'm gonna be playing a level 8 Wildfire Firbolg named Wildfire starting next weekend, I don't think Druid has a ton of BA moves, so getting basically two attacks will be nice once Fire spirit is up, mixed with prepared healing spells and some good fire spells, I think I have maxed Wisdom too so the spirit has a +8 to hit, plus some cool nature related spells thanks to Firbolg, should be a good time The level 10 feature will NEVER get used for damage, but it will be good for setting up reactionary healing points on the battlefield

you can't really properly have a fire subclass without Firebolt and fucking Fireball, they are the most known, basic, direct and staple fire spells

If your DM deems it appropriate, you can try asking to swap out the damage type of Fire for a different one. Maybe you want Piercing damage? Maybe your companion take on the form of a fox shaped bundle of thorny vines. Just replace all instances of fire damage with piercing in its stat block, and flavor appropriately.

A pattern that has developed in 5e that I despise most as a DM: every f***ing class or subclass now has some cutesy, annoying animal or arcane companion. Find Familiar and Beastmaster in the PHB were fine, but now? Asmodeus’ a**hole, one round of initiative take 10 minutes! The thing about the teleport recharge is that you could only ever use it once since even in the UA it only lasted for an hour, which is how long it takes for a short rest. So by removing that they are allowing the players to do it more than once

@@hectortoledo8938 True, but that still means you are creating a new spirit, or at least a new body for the spirit, which uses resources. Each body was still limited to teleporting once and resummoning them was just a way to get around that limitation

Ok so. You want a druid with fireball. Wildfire Druid 8/Phoenix Sorcerer 6/Undying Light Warlock 6 For added flavor. Half-Off for Relentless Endurance Have to kill this setup like 4 or 5 times before it stopped. And a bonus double Cha bonus to your fire damage rolls. Lol And you get fireball. Your welcome.

In the Wildfire Spirit text, it is not written that it moves or has reactions when it is in Combat other than Battle Smith and Primal Companion, do you think this was a flaw in the text or is it intentional? An enemy is approaching the spirit and the spirit remains still, even though it has more wis and int than the Battle Smith and the Primal Companion, and even if the enemy leaves the spirit space, the spirit does not have an attack of opportunity.

I believe the reason they took out the free fire bolt is so that the fire druid actually takes the druid fire cantrip, produce flame. Because let's be honest, if you did have fire bolt, would you ever take produce flame?

I think, for the 14th level feature, if they're making it cost you your spirit then they should keep the nova blast. Maybe drop it to 2d8 + Druid Level fire damage and make it so that the burst can emanate from either you or your spirit's location.

so many people upset about fireball being removed from this subclass, and im just sitting here happy to see it gone because i would rather get revivify prepped for free than have that overrated bomb stuck in my spell list. if i wanted a character all about throwing fireballs, id play a sorcerer or a wizard, not a druid

@Nerd Immersion I wanted to know your thoughts on perhaps reviewing a UA subclass after all of the Tasha's videos, being the College of Spirits Bard. I was wondering if either you agree on whether that was a subclass that was more thematically suited for a druid. I've heard a lot of people mention ideas since that subclass came out such as a Shaman druid remodeled after the features of the College of Spirits Bard. I would like to know your thoughts as well as anyone else here on that as well.

I would say that the new wildfire spirit got more HP than the UA one (Wis +2 and Con +2 = 4). It's only 1HP difference but I wanted to point it out

it was actually the spirit's con and the wis of the player, so it was slightly higher, if you have good wisdom. I was confused at first too, and just wanted to point this out
