Earl, have you searched You-Tube for "circular track saw guide"? I think Jay Bates (among quite a few) have a video on making one. No need to measure offsets like you have to with those straight edges. I have a few of the straight edges and after making my own track say guide I haven't used them other than for marking an occasional line that's longer than my yard stick. Thanks for sharing your videos.

+Larry527az Yes, Larry, I've seen most of them. I've built and used "saw board" style tracks. What I find with them is they still have to be clamped down and I still have to measure and mark my cut anyway. In woodworking there are usually several ways to skin a cat. Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment!

I love this, bcuz I have some Harbor freight Tools straight-edge clamps, w/grooves on both sides of the clamp, similar to yours. I had thought of this method, of using something narrow to ride inside these grooves, but didnt think hard enuf to come up w/the method of how I'd be mounting it to my base plate. I guess I need to make a new, wider base plate, to accomodate the wooden pieces & angle iron. One question/suggestion, though - do u ever have problems w/stability, or keeping the base EXACTLY 90 degrees to the wood being cut? I think when I make mine, it'll have two straightedge clamps - one on each side of the saw - & then that way it cant go ANYWHERE, but straight. I have actually made a sled w/the double straight edge concept, longer than 8', to cut full sheets lengthwise, having the saw cut out 2 kerfs, having the saw pointed in both directions, w/room to clamp it down, on the extra wood on the other side of the straightedges. This is all made w/wood, so its a fricken beast to use on crosscutting, cumbersome. Your solution is perfect for crosscuts, using those straight-edge guides. Thank u for sharing, & maybe I'll get around to sharing a video that I'll potentially record, for my beast of a track saw guide, someday. Aloha

+Agboo Hans Thanks for the comment Agboo. I've used this guide a bunch of time with outstanding results. Not once has the guide slipped out of the grove on the clamp and the clamps have never moved during a cut. Two guides are not needed.
@echarters

Cheap and accurate guide, but the system does not allow positioning the guide or registering it against a line. You have to use measurement, which could give up a fraction here or there... I wonder if you could extend markers/tabs/sticks at each end of the home made portion of the saw base/fence follower which allowed the follower to line up against a line.. You would have to make a cut and measure/postion where they fasten against the edge leading and trailing edge of the base plate/follower. I guess in operation you would do the registration of your markers at one of the line then clamp one end of the fence, then move the follower to the other end of the fence and register again against your line and clamp.
@Huck249
8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment Eric. Yes, you have to measure and accurately place your clamp on the piece to cut. In my case, the clamp is spaced 6.5 inches from the desired cut line. The guide does, however, help me make accurate cuts after I've measured and placed the clamp. This was my goal when I made the guide.

Nice job on the jig. I have made my living for over 40 years as a carpenter/trim and cabinet. I very seldom would use one like you made in this video, to much room for error in measuring over for cut. I have use ones like the guy in this video has built many many times , no mistakes measuring over. Just make sure you are cutting on the correct side of the line. kzitem.info/news/bejne/1Z6ayoijfGifpWmv was using these before this young man was thought of, Boy that makes me old. LOL

You could also screw 1/8 or 1/4 by say 10 inch wide panel product to the bottom side of the tru guide clamp. Then run the saw to trim to size. Now you have your reference edge/ cutline! Okay, the clamp maybe doesn't work as a clamp anymore. So what? Sacrifice one function for another.

The video title is written wrongly.there is no point in using this as guide as the base plate can slide on the surface with a fence and marking are given on the same base plate........ Rather if you can manage to attach four legs and place the saw with the guide upside down it will become a table saw.
@niebzdury1377
7 жыл бұрын
What's the point of this when you're using the saw improperly? Unless there's a compelling reason to do otherwise, the wide part of the sole plate should ride on the stock . This provides stability and lets the stock support the weight of the saw - which enhances safety. That's why the saw is built that way in the first place. With this rig, any improvement you make in straight is going to be offset by uneven edges due to saw wobble. Turn the saw around and you're in like Flynn.
@Huck249
7 жыл бұрын
You're right of course. That's why I made the jig so that either side of the saw can ride on the clamp - as shown in the video.
