12 years later and I'm in college pursuing a nursing degree. Anatomy and physiology class is more difficult for me than I anticipated so THANK YOU!!! It was also VERY nostalgic to hear your voice and see your writing again! Put me in a better headspace

Same. I loved watching these videos when I was doing my Physiology degree. I'm having a bit of a refresher now and by some miracle I can actually remember most of it. Good luck with your nursing degree.

This lecturer is totally inspiring... I was completely engaged and motivated. He took a complex organ such as the heart and it's circulatory system and made it quite simple to comprehend in minutes... Unfortunately, my professors did not possess this skill.

Guys this guy is amazing! Making biology understandable with a slight touch of humour - He has never timed how long it takes for a blood cell (i think it was) to go all around the body. SO much better then being stuck in the lab having no idea whats going on

Perhaps there is a video that's been taken down or never uploaded? I'd love to watch it. Thank you for teaching us incredible knowledge for our benefit.

I never feel the same kind of joy in any other activity than teaching. When you struggle with the understanding of a new concept, be it math, physics, chemistry or biology and when you eventually grasp it and it all becomes crystal clear, is an exhilirating experience Then you go on explaining what you've just learned to an attentive friend while actually understanding what you're teaching and not quoting what you remember the teacher saying before the break. Great. It really works... painting/writing and explaining in real time. Otherwise it would be a screen-captured, commented Power-Point-Movie... means a pseudo sophisticated way to explain nothing and distract people from the content with the pseudo-ability to program things and send them into coma - no matter the subject. Your way to "present" should be spread around the world - from schools to offices to... Keep on going.

@Jokuim yes i've wondered the same thing, and according to wikipedia, my books and so on, I'm pretty sure that the blue blood vesels are veins and the red ones are arteries, so @khanacademy , please add notation on the video.

@nexychoco and it does except the pulmonary ones. it's because of the size, if you notice the blood vessel that goes to the lungs it's bigger than the one that comes back from the lungs to the heart. So, bigger --> more pressure --> artery. I think this is the explanation.

No it's not. The pulmonary artery carries away deoxygenated blood from the right ventricle (thus the blue-colored vessel, Arteries=Away) then once it has passed through the capillaries in the lungs, the blood becomes oxygenated (thus the red-colored vessel) and passes through the pulmonary vein (Vein=Return to heart) back to the left atrium. Then it goes on to systemic circulation.

@JESUSacoustic Pulmonary Artery carries deoxygenated blood then it goes to the lungs to get oxygens so it'd be oxygenated afterwards it goes back to the heart through Pulmonary Vein, that means Pulmonary Vein carries Oxygenated blood. He said it clearly on this vid. And he didn't get it mixed up.
