Most Cirrus Pilots or Owners have their oil changes performed at a maintenance shop or service center. In many instances, that can be time consuming and very expensive for the owner. FAR Part 91 allows owners/pilots to perform some maintenance themselves, including oil and filter changes. By practicing this easy maintenance yourself, you become much more in tune with your engine, increase it's lifespan by reducing heat cycles, save hundreds if not thousands of $ per year and potentially save time! Overall, it makes you a better and safer owner and pilot of your aircraft.
In this video we perform an oil and filter change with safety wire on the filter, we collect an oil sample for Blackstone to review, we open up the old oil filter and check for ferrous and non-ferrous contaminants, and lastly we log the entire process. I am not an A&P or an IA. So do not take this video as instruction! It is simply me showing how I choose to perform these oil changes on a regular basis. Enjoy!
