The WAP with model AIR-AP2802I-E-K9, can be converted into Mobility express by loading the Mobility express image?

Thanks for watching, Reji. Here's a reply from one of our Cisco Engineers: Yes, that model can be converted to mobility express. A Smart Net contract will be required to download the firmware image. It's not an incredibly easy process and will require some command line setup with an FTP server to host the image, but quite doable.

Hey, Anil - here's a reply from our Cisco Specialist: Yes, they can! It can also be a secondary master in the event of a device failure.

Isn't it wrong to compare the solutions based on the cost? So if a user has money position the costlier option and once there is competition; position entirely different solution which would suffice the need. It could be a good idea for a sales person though; but for a user it may send the wrong impression, if he is keen on what he is going to pay for. IMO

My company got 2 units of Air AP3802I-B-K9 which based on what you discussed is not pre-loaded with mobility express. When I tried to set them up I cannot see the CiscoAirProvision SSID hence unable to proceed. My questions are, do we still need to get another 3802I-B-K9C to enable to setup the APs and if not is there a way to just download the mobility express to enable me to use the 2 AP3802I-B-K9 without getting another 3802I with a K9C? I would greatly appreciate your prompt reply...thank you.

Hey, Virgilio! Thanks for your patience while our engineers got back to us. Here is a reply from our Cisco Specialist: You should be able to connect via an IP address and SSH to configure the AP. If you are having issues connecting to the AP, I would recommend contacting Cisco TAC Support. If you have SmartNet on the AP’s, you should be able to access the Mobility Express firmware, which you can use to reflash the AP’s. There are firmware requirements listed in the document below. www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/controller/technotes/8-5/b_cisco_mobility_express_8_5/b_cisco_mobility_express_8_5_chapter_00.html
