The NO APPR message on PFD is because you have entered an ILS approach in the FMS. The system knows that, and this is a reminder that you cannot fly the approach with the FMS as your navigation source, and that you will need to go « green needle » at some point to track the ILS. If you would have entered a GPS approach in the FMS, this message would be RNP ARM or LPV ARM, once you are in the terminal area, then it would switch to RNP APPR or LPV APPR as you approach the FAF. This would confirm that the FMS is « happy » and you are properly set to fly a GPS approach.

Great video. Working on my IR rating. One of the hardest nuts to crack is getting instrument approaches into Phoenix airfields. It’s disappointing there isn’t an effort to welcome students to do approaches. Understand Skyharbour is a hub and class b space. But even outside their busy hours, they won’t support instrument training. Your flight planning and execution were spot on. Notice, you had to do a visual to get into phx.

Thx for watching and you’ve got this! Yes, PHX Class B has been a bit challenging for Tigre at times when he was starting out. They are very busy, but should be more accommodating if you’re respecting the radios and being polite and prompt with requests during low intensity hours. That being said, we don’t practice at KSAN knowing that it’s a busy single runway with flights often.

We just thought about something. LAX actually has times when people can practice approaches. You may want to check with PHX to see if they have the same option. SAN doesn't want practice approaches, but you can land, visit the FBO for water and fuel, then depart. We did the visual since we were in VFR and it expedited the flow of traffic. Even when we fly visually, we often load an approach and follow it in, or at least some of the legs. It helps your proficiency.

Be nice if you stopped blurring the inputs into the box.

We have Pro Line 21 training as a course if you’re wanting to get skilled at this avionics suite.
