I think one thing you could put in your two cities is a streetcar/tram line going between the two cities. The El Paso-Ciudad Juárez streetcar line existed between 1882 and 1973, travelling passengers between the two cities on other sides of the border. It would be even cooler to see PCC streetcars being used.

Tom In Space First, Mexican isnt a language, Mexicans speak Spanish. Second, Spanish is my mother tongue and I live in a Spanish-speaking country, therefore, I know what Puerta exactly means, which is door, not port, cave, arches, etc... And by saying it sounds Spanish, it is because some Spanish words don't have the caractheristic pronunciation that foreigners to the language would call Spanish.
@bandersnach5565

Portuguese comes from Latin and is clearly influenced by Castilian, but not from Italian or Catalan. Same goes for Spanish, its base is Castilian, which comes from Latin, it also has loanwords from Arabic but not significantly. Catalan does sound like a mixture between Spanish and French (or maybe Occitan), but with a special pronunciation.

For your next city, you should try to do an idealised or hypothetical version of whatever type of city you choose. For example, you could do a city to represent how a region could or hopefully would be like in the future, with higher density, spaceports, and some more modern architecture. You could do a utopian or dystopian version of a city. Basically, just try to preserve the feel of the theme, while portraying it in a different way.

I would really love to see some one do a run down, dystopain type city. But to do it right would probably require a lot of unique props and unique growable building themes to have things grow in rundown looking with littler/junk filled yards. Schools that look like the buildings are 50 years old and underfunded with graduation rates that are 50/sub 50%. Where people are forced to live in tenement housing near industrial complexes and unemployment is high. A true Dystopian City.

As someone from Phoenix, I'm really excited to see this! I would love to see some Arizona-like areas in here, I feel like we have such a unique way of turning the desert into a paradise. For example, inspirations from cities like Tempe, Scottsdale, and Gilbert would fit perfectly in here, and make it a bit different than El Paso in general. Look up pictures of Tempe Town Lake snd Scottsdale Mall and you'll see what I mean! Also, I really hope you add a "rich suburbia" feel to parts of it as well. Southwestern US (Arizona, Nevada, Texas, New Mexico) has been experiencing massive population and business growth over the past decade or so, and housing prices are so cheap, you'd probably be amazed. Anyways, I really hope you do a bit of research about some of the stuff I've commented, I think they could really be good contributions to your city! Edit: Also, southwestern cities use Palm trees a ton, hundreds of miles from the ocean! It's been found to be a great way to green up the desert! Edit 2: Hahaha if you want to see a gridded city, look at Phoenix. 4.5 million people all in a bunch of 1x1 mile grids. Pretty unique.
