I interned in a studio back in the 90’s in NYC, and Cope was booked for a month ,there working on his first label backed album. Barely paid for by sum spineless spin off of a major label, pinching pennie and dime, spent the money and time, but it was cheaply mastered by the label. They didn’t even push it when came out. Saw this time and time again, These label clowns blow smoke up everybody’s ass then just dissapear, drop the ball, and it’s just a write off, if the artist doesn’t have to pay them back from touring. That is why so much has changed, and we have lost many vintage fantastic studios. BUT it’s great to see Citizen Cope doing well , with still going strong, and going it alone .Only way for musicians to b free is to own their own MASTERS!! Only Vampires want to keep your sweat and blood, much like IRS???

I'm a yoga teacher in NOLA, and I play Sideways in my class. A few years ago, I announced in class that CC was coming to NOLA and asked if anyone was interested. I ended up with two cars full of students, and when Sideways came on, they sang it out loud with the band. It was such a magical moment. The first time I was with these wonderful students out of the studio, they had so much fun. Thank You! Love you. Nina

I’m going to watch and listen but, thank you for knowing how important The River is. I got Clarence to not only perform it, he dedicated the song to my son Whalen who drowned in a river via a car accident. Whalen had 3 favorites. Shane MacGowan, Wilco and Citizen Cope. I got Clarence to toss out a song, (Matunuck RI) I got Jeff Tweedy to dedicate a song, Impossible Germany and a concert to Whalen. Now, I just have to get to Ireland to get Shane to dedicate a song to Whalen. ☮️

Hey I just wanted to tell you where I was at the first hour on releasing your album bro. I had just got out of a hospital of bad dreams. There was so much healing happening in My brain still. I'm coming to a decade since my accident and miraculously survived. Why I'm still alive has too much for me to even have an expression. Clearance, did your parents have a good marriage? Mine did not. My mentor. Thank you dearly for helping me heal. At times I needed solace.

@@an0therdimensi0n99 This isn't live? It looks live to me. I think you are confused as to what live music is. This isn't a studio recording and I hear people clapping. I know this is an old comment, but I just wanted to say that singing and speech do no work the same! Clearly enunciating each out will make your mouth move more than singing. It doesn't have to do with the volume you produce, because your mouth take a shape based on the *pitch* and the *intonation* of the note and change slowly as you sing but you're not enunciating every syllab like in speech. It's also the shape of his mouth that makes it look like a small opening but he has a very throathy deep voice. There really isn't even a need to open your mouth wide unless you're projecting and extremely powerful note in the high range. It's not screaming, it's letting the vocal folds virbrate freely when you sustain the note, and the shape of your mouth simply helps with the tonality of that sound. It happens in the throat and abdominal muscles, not in the mouth. When we speak, it's more a percussive instrument; when we sing, it's more a horn. Does that make sense?

Fuck that dudes comment, I care! But yeah the lyrics for the most part have been interpreted as someone singing about a love that’s lost or unattainable, but you can easily flip it and see it from a positive point of view. That’s the beauty of music and lyrics and art in general. It’s subjective and doesn’t have to mean anything but what it means to you. I’m sure it was a beautiful first dance and beautiful moment in your life my friend!

Houston Oilers because he’s walked the shoes in these songs . They are him and his lessons he’s learned , things he’s experienced. Pretty sure he was a junky for a lot of years , not anymore I don’t think . I’ve listened to him for a long time . Seems a lot of his songs come from ..... pain and love or love lost . But I think through pain is where a lot of his inspiration comes from . Now these are just my gut feelings and I could be wrong , but I don’t think so 🙏🏼🤘🏼👊🏻 @matt_bazerko_187

@Houston Oilers Dude SO RIGHT ON with that comment man!! He FEELS his music. And I have to agree with the comment right after yours. It's because he has walked in those shoes for so many years. He has LIVED, LOVED, EXPERIENCED SO MUCH more than most can imagine probably. I have a best friend (won't say had) because it's NEVER goodbye only see you soon. He passed from heroin OD 4 yrs ago and I still feel him here with me. Especially when listening to music. We managed a restaurant together and he had that insatiable passion for music, literature, all art forms, cooked like a chef it's so hard still...every single day. But he is waiting for me. RIP Joe....from your Kimmy Gumdrop or Slutbunny. He would send me random lyrics in the middle of the night and I BETTER have title and artist the following morning...obviously no googling...where's the fun in that??? But like Citizen Cope you can see in his face...expressions...nothing but pure art just flows all thru him and out into the world for others to experience it as well!! Rebelution is another favorite of mine...seen then twice live and they also really get into their art. I have to say I have seen Grateful dead 94 in Miami before Jerry passed RIP to a true genius...ozzy front row center...Dave Matthew's..coldplay...gym class Hero's...pepper...as many bands as possible at Warped tour 201..Larry and His Flask are bad ass by the way and on and on but point being none of them have surpassed Rebelution live!!! So much passion for the art they produce!!! It's NOT about the money, fame, its ALL ABOUT THE MUSIC AND THE FANS!! THAT'S EXTREMELY RARE these days. To Citizen Cope and all the other artists out there huge, medium, and the Especially the ones not as well known YET..THANK YOU ALL FOR MAKING THE WORLD A MORE BEAUTIFUL PLACE! MUSIC IS LIFE...POSITIVE MUSIC SO MUCH THE BETTER ✌🤟😊🤘🤘🤘🤘💖💞💗❤💚💜
