It is still a trip hazard mate. Just be aware that if someone trips over there, they will probably sue you for compensation - such is the litigious society we all live in today 🤦🏻♂️

Lol it’s a *public* pavement that he’s deliberately put an electric cable over. Nothing litigious about it.. Blind person, old person with walking stick, dog chews it. Put it this way, if it was you that tripped on a cable or broken pavement you’ll be the first to sue the council. You can buy cable runners, signs for a start. But I’d you want to be completely stupid just lay a cable on the pavement

Running a charge lead across the path is illegal. If any body trips over the hazard, you have left there, you are leaving yourself open to legal action.

Sadly there are many people in the world who would “trip” over the cable, and sue for compensation, I’d suggest you make sure you have good legal cover on your house insurance.

Glad you checked with the Electricity Board. I like the visibility strips on it. It will depend of course on how busy your street is. Not all properties have drives so solutions will need to be found.

I do similar, but have a drainage gulley, which helps put the cable below the pavement. People will talk all sorts of nonsense about trip hazards, but the wording is not to block the pavement 'without due care', and I think any reasonable effort would have to be examined by a legal specialist/proven in court, but I'd certainly think in layman's terms this is in the right direction.

The insurance will not pay any claims by people suing as that is illegal to place hazards across the public sidewalks.

You might want to place some cones or something to alert people of the potential trip hazard.

My thoughts on this are to employ a "stand" that you see in car showroom forecourts that is held in place with one of the wheels and has a vertical "flag pole". The cable is then can be held well above pedestrians. add "flags" to draw attention to the cable overhead and place a sign each end of the vehicle warning of overhead cable. (This doesn't obviously eliminate all the problems) I have just seen Richard Turners comment.

The best solution I've seen is a pole mounted on a flat plate which you place a wheel on whilst parked. You could then have the cable coming over your hedge to your pole and into the car. No trip hazard.

Thanks for the video, it would be nice if council would provide some sort of cable trap from the propertys to the roadside so those that have EVs can charge their cars that do not have off road parking, but it would not be feasible for all, but it would show others that the councils are serious about EVs by investigating in a system that allows people to charge the vehicle this way and more people may adopt an EV for everyday transport, at this moment the easy of just plugging in an EV is not easy, EV charging needs to be like phones, be able to plug in at home, work and out and about, cars like the Ami are not the solution to cheap transport for the masses, but it does fill a hole for some and is a start in the right direction, I hope the Ami does well and not just be a Sinclar C5, in France you can be 14 with no licence to drive this, in the UK you need a full licence, so for some people they will not see any advantages of getting an Ami over a normal vehicle, time will tell as they say.

It's going to be an increasingly knotty issue I feel. I am wondering if anyone has designed an overhead cable crane which could be swung out across the typical pavement above 2.3 metres high with the cable and connector dangling down for easy use at the roadside. Surely not impossible to create and permit for houses in terraced streets with or without gardens?

Just like a car wash setup. Swing out and direct down and plug in. I have seen a guy in Dumfries that had this setup but the pole was extendable and hidden when not in use. Just like a manual car wash. Bit of a faff but it suited his needs as he couldn't put the cable on the ground due to foot traffic.

Looks like a trip hazard ! . Maybe get a 2kwh power bank or something which might also be useful to carry onboard when travelling . I think the ami has a 5.5kwh battery ?.

Not really a suitable setup, what happens when other people in the street do the same it's going to be dangerous and annoying for other residents. It's not even armoured cable which should be used in an outdoor space.

Its up to the council not the electricity company to decide weather thats allowed. As i was in the exact same situation and was refused by the council of doing the same thing. Best thing is to run it over you privit and hook it down th post so people can walk under it

Use you head for a min. Imagine if all your neighbours did the same thing as you and ran cables across the payment every second house on the street. Surely you can see how crazy that is opening yourself up to litigation, council issues etc. If you had to run cables across a pavement then you should not have bought an electric car. You cant try and lower carbon emission by breaking someones face on your pavement from a trip.

La Broy done good! Well not really matey , you've left yourself and the EV concept open to ridicule as you have demonstrated clearly the impracticality of these town shopping vehicles. I'm sure there are many terrace householders that think these are worth it in saving on fuel economy and clean air pollution but you have highlighted the total lack of thought as to where the best market might be, the townhouse dwellers of our towns and cities and any amount of marketing ain't going to change that!
