City of Basse-Terre - Guadeloupe

After visiting Fort Delgrès, we went to the town of Basse-Terre which is located at the foot of the La Soufrière volcano.
The city center has several small shops. However, during our visit, the majority of them were closed.
Many houses are part of the architectural heritage of Guadeloupe. Some are well maintained, others less.
The streets are dotted with colorful facades and pretty murals, which greatly enhance the landscape.
We went to the fruit and vegetable market ... but it was closing time. So there were only a few merchants who were about to leave the area. The fish market was also deserted.
Some buildings are worth a detour such as the Notre-Dame du Mont-Carmel church, the Notre-Dame-de-la-Guadeloupe cathedral, the Palais de Justice, the General Council and the Town Hall.
During our walk around town, we also had the opportunity to observe a huge cursed fig tree that merged with the nearby fence.
