Mayor Mike Duggan joined Motor City Pride officials to raise the Pride flag in honor of LGBTQ+ Pride Month during a ceremony in Detroit’s Spirit Plaza today as part of the City’s commitment to support an inclusive, welcoming city for all.
Pride Month commemorates the struggles and celebrates the progress of the LGBTQ+ community. The flag raising ceremony kicks off Pride Month and leads up to the annual Motor City Pride Festival and Parade on June 8 and 9 (Parade on June 9). The Pride Festival and Parade draws more than 65,000 people to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community and encourages unity in support of equality for all individuals.
"The City of Detroit proudly raises our Pride Flag at the start of every Pride Month, and it flies throughout the year to show our unwavering support for the LGBTQ+ community and the diversity within our community,” said Mayor Mike Duggan. “Detroit is proud to be an inclusive city which values all of its residents without judgement.”
