We’re known as the City of Festivals for a reason. Here are the top 7 things happening in the City of Lenexa for Fourth of July weekend.
Start Independence Day early with a family-friendly 5K or 10K at the Lenexa Freedom Run in Old Town Lenexa on Monday, July 4. Runners, walkers, and strollers are all welcome.
Watch the Community Days Parade, an annual hometown tradition, that draws thousands to Old Town. The parade starts at 10 a.m.
Take a splash all weekend long at one of our three outdoor pools, Ad Astra, Flat Rock Creek and Indian Trails Aquatics Center.
Light up your Independence Day gatherings with sparkling side dishes made from Lenexa Farmer’s Market products. From barbeque sauce, rubs and seasonings, to salsa and fruit vinegars, your dishes are sure to explode with flavors. Shop the Lenexa Farmers Market on Tuesdays and Saturdays for fresh finds from local farmers.
OK dog lovers, this one’s for you. The PAWtriotic Pet Parade on Saturday, July 2 is a festive, pet-friendly celebration featuring strutting mutts in costume, pop-up vendors selling pet-related products and treats for humans and dogs alike. The parade begins at 11 a.m. at the Lenexa civic campus.
And join us for live music on our patio and dine outdoors at the Lenexa Public Market on July 1 for Friday Night Sound Bites.
Before you have fun in the sun, be sure to apply sunscreen and stay hydrated. If you want to escape the summer heat, you can always visit the Lenexa Rec Center indoors with a day pass. We have a pool too!
Let’s talk fireworks. They’re illegal in Lenexa. So, keep calm and sparkle on. Sparklers, snakes, smoke bombs and paper caps with less than .25 grain of explosives are not considered fireworks and are legal in Lenexa. If you want to report firework, use in Lenexa, call our non-emergency dispatch line at 913.477.7301.
Did you know fireworks start more than 19,000 fires and send 9,000 people to the emergency room each year? Don’t be that person. Please celebrate safely. And even though sparklers are legal in Lenexa, glow sticks are a better alternative for kids.
Happy Independence Day from the City of Lenexa!
