Paterson, NJ - Saturday, September 28, 2024, in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, Mayor Andre Sayegh, 5th Ward Councilman Luis Velez, and the Paterson City Council will host a special street renaming ceremony in honor of Frankie Ruiz, the legendary "El Papá de la Salsa." Summer Street, between Essex Street and Park Avenue, will be officially renamed "Frankie Ruiz Way."
Frankie Ruiz, a celebrated figure in salsa music, was born in Paterson, New Jersey, and began his musical journey at a young age in the city's own Roberto Clemente Park. His exceptional talent and dedication to music led him to an illustrious career, including the release of several top-selling albums that contributed to the popularization of salsa romántica.
Mayor Andre Sayegh and the City Council will honor the enduring impact that Frankie Ruiz had on music, the Hispanic community, and the city of Paterson. The ceremony will include remarks from city officials, community leaders, and family members of the late salsa star.
