Tip 2 was S tier for me haha. I struggled with timing and wanting to chop into something else for 1800 hours. Corps will gain the promotion if the combined units have 2 different lower tier promotions. I'm certain on that. For instance, if you have battlecry on one infantry and tortoise on the other, then the new corp gets both. So, if you have Victor you can purchase 2 musketmen on one turn. take two different promotions. then make the corp on the following turn, and they will be level 2. But in general, you do need to look over who you combine.

Thank you for getting back to me! I'll definitely ask if I have any specific questions. Mostly just getting used to Immortal difficulty and knowing when to prioritize certain things. @@Cardb33 Yeah no problem interacting with the people in the community here is honestly my favourite part of this whole YT thing. As for chopping unless you're going for a culture win and using earth goddess pantheon to boost faith you should basically always chop everything. There are rare situations where this isn't true but those are few and far between. After everything is chopped as long as your proper districts are built with the buildings inside of them and you have your citizens working in the right districts thats all you need and pretty much all your cities should be on campus research grants for science games or theatre square festivals for culture etc. Then you only build your 3rd tier buildings (research labs or broadcast centers) in your few cities that have high production and you purchase the rest of them with gold since it isn't worth the amount of production invested. As far as the industrial zones it doesn't make sense building that many at all because they have a 6 tiles radius when they are upgraded properly so they boost the production in any nearby city that doesn't have them. And on top of that, you only need to build either 2 solar panels or 2 wind farms or 1 of each in any city that isn't covered by an industrial zone radius in order to power your 3rd tier building of whatever win condition you're chasing.

One correction/update. I bought the base game (no DLC) in October 2020, and combining units into corps or armies DOES combine their promotions when they merge. I don't know if it was changed after the video was made or if one of the DLCs makes it work differently. When I merge units, the combined unit inherits all of the unique promotions of its parents. If one of them had 3 left side promotions and the other parent had 3 right side promotions, the merged unit will have all 6 of those promos. If both parents have some of the the same promos, the merged one will only have one copy of each (they don't stack). So if one has 2 on the right and the other has 3 on the right, all the new one gets is 3 on the right.

I just checked and you're right Clay-- the promotions did stay if they were on a different side of the promotion tree. Like if you have one archer with garrison and one with volley your corps will have both but if both have volley you lose that extra promotion. My bad on that, but the technique in the tip actually stays relevant though, you want to combine your units with the least promotions with the ones who have the most so you end up with the best corps unless you have a whole bunch of units that are highly promoted but down different sides of the tech tree. Next time I play a domination game I'm gonna do this on purpose and always pick opposite sides of the tech tree regardless of which side has better promotions and then just make super units at Nationalism lmao

Extension on tip #1- OK, you have a cool trick about slotting in the 1-turn cards and then switching gov's, but it requires rather specific timing for the utility of the gov switch to align with your need for the use of a 1-turn card. Here's two alternatives that I prefer: A.) allow some civics that neither provide you with bonuses you really need nor are prerequisite for other civics that you want (ex: naval tradition in a landlocked game, all the bottom row religious civics for a non-religious game) to go unresearched and antiquated (i.e. ancient-classical civics still available for research when you're renaissance.) Finish whatever civic you're working on, slot in the 1-turn civic (pro-army, land surveyors, SERFDOM (more on that later), etc.) then research the antiquated civic that you'll finish in 1 turn. Then swap the longer term cards (urban planning, any adjacency card, etc.) back in. B.) Keep the long-term cards in while you research the current civic up to 1 turn remaining. Then switch to another civic to research. When you finish the second civic, swap in the 1-turn cards and finish the civic with 1 turn remaining. Swap out the 1-turn cards. My view of tip 3: I'm usually not too concerned about era score, but good tip about not having the cap be last which negates the one era boost. I'm usually more concerned about the warmonger grievance of eliminating their last city. My two ways of handling that are to leave their last city as their lowest pop city and either A.) let an allied city-state take it out, or b.) build their other cities up and settle and growth-chop around their last, let it loyalty-flip, take it when it's a free city. My view of tip 4: you've covered the primary strategy for maximizing corps/fleet upgrades. A secondary consideration that I use is to save a front-line unit that can't escape (usually because of ZoC) from being eliminated. By upgrading to corps from a unit behind it, you can often pull it out of bombardment range. Note that this may lead to a corps with less promotions, but if it was going to die the next turn anyway, it's still salvaging the situation. A note on the serfdom card: I find this to be the absolute most powerful 1-turn (well, few-turn) card there is. What I'll often do is find myself in times when several cities need multiple improvements and/or chops, and then have all of my cities change production to (or have their next production be) a builder. While running the long-term policy card, build the builder to within 1 turn of completion, then switch to another production and make a map mark of "prebuilder" on the city. Once a sufficient amount of cities have builders with one turn remaining, switch to serfdom and switch all of your cities' production to the almost completed builder for the extra charges and then research an inexpensive civic and swap the serfdom card out. Note that each builder increases the cost of the next one, even if completed in the same turn, so while all of your cities say 1 turn remaining, several will take an additional turn or two. Also note that you can use this trick with the Ancestral Hall government building by placing several of your settlers on their desired settling spots, change the policy card to serfdom, and then all of them will start with a builder with extra charges and you can swap the card out. Further note that if you're combining these two tricks (prebuilders in existing cities and settling several cities with extra-charged free builders), you'll want to complete the prebuilders before settling the cities as the newly settled cities' free builder will increase the cost and delay the prebuilders, and in turn you're getting a more expensive builder for free in the new settlements.

Wow, thanks for leaving such a detailed comment Kip! So for the first part about using old dead end civics that you don't necessarily need I use that regularly, but I honestly haven't ever thought of using the second part that you suggested of purposely leaving a civic with one turn remaining if you don't need the bonuses it unlocks so you can switch more often. That's good thinking! I never would've thought about using the formation of units to try and save a unit who's stuck in a zone of control or even if they have low health but you want to take one last shot with a ranged unit and then use that to pull them out of the encampment or walled city range. Domination is not my strong suit, so thanks for the heads up! And about the third thing, I 100% agree with you about both of those suggestions. They are actually both in another Tips video I did in a similar style. Great minds think alike! :P If you don't mind me asking, how long have you been playing the Civ franchise for?

@@GamerGrampz 1991 of course! LOL! No seriously, I was a hardcore gamer during the NES era up until shortly after the Super Nintendo came out, spent half my time playing Civilization and half my time playing everything else combined, then kind of fell out of gaming due to a combination of other interests prevailing like girls... I mean martial arts and hockey! LOL! and because of the decline in quality of releases for the SNES- not that the later games were really that bad, but S-Mario World, S-PunchOut, S-Castlevania, Final Fantasy 2 and 3, NBA Jam, F-Zero, Street Fighter 2 original... these were all timeless classics that still hold up today (in my opinion at least) and the entries that came later just weren't up to that par. So I kind of gave up gaming for awhile, but while I was taking slapshots and jump kicks (and becoming the nightmare of every teenage daughter's father!), I still had to revisit one game and one game only- CIVILIZATION!!! I played civ1 off and on for about 13 years. I completely missed civ2 and civ3's release because I wasn't really into any gaming groups, and then I heard about Civ4 coming out and thought, "Wow did I ever fall behind!" I kind of skipped civ2 (later got it- it's just Civ1 with more stuff) and was brief with civ3 - civ3 was, again, pretty similar to civ1 with the major caveat being that now which civ you chose was no longer just an aesthetic/role-playing choice but now provided you with substantial bonuses depending on which two traits you had, and it was a great time experimenting with different civs for the purpose of seeing how different traits synergized. Civ4 was, of course, my rebirth into gaming (but still only this franchise) as it was so groundbreaking! After about 50 deity victories with Civ5, I went back to CIv4. The one nice thing about Civ5 was that you had less micromanagement than any other game in the franchise, because of how incredibly steep the cost of expansion got. It made it very easy. That said, the way I want to play the game is to make a sprawling, "sun-never-sets" empire so Civ5 wasn't one of my favorites. Civ6 is getting pretty close to matching the quality of Civ4 (again, in my opinion.) I've beaten deity with every pre- Gathering Storm leader in at least one victory condition that wasn't their "preferred" victory condition. But now I just like to play Emperor, sometimes Immortal, because the fun I have with the game is the empire-building aspects more than trying to develop the perfect strategy. My inclination towards the "SImCity" aspects rather than the "Battle-Chess" aspects are why I delayed picking up GS for so long - If the reason I want to play this game is to build a utopian civilization, why would I want to have natural disasters muck everything up!?!?! But I got it a few weeks ago, love it, and am having so much fun!

Speaking of FUN!!!! Have you tried Harald of Norway since they changed him in GS? If not, O...M...F...G!!!! He's so much fun! Here's my "Harald Challenge" (maybe challenge isn't the right word... anyway...) Try this: play a game as Harald. The rules are twofold- 1.) Settle as much as you can because 2.) you are not allowed to conquer any cities but rather, your goal is to try to have every mine, quarry, camp, pasture, plantation and district ourside of your territory pillaged. The bonuses that you get from doing so are absolutely crazy, especially if you have the Total War card (or it's two predecessor cards) slotted in. By not conquering cities, you can go back after they repair your damage. I can guarantee you two things- First, this will not be your most strategically sound game you've played... by far. And second, you will not be able to play through the game without an ear-to-ear grin on your face for vast majority of the game. I guess that's the real challenge here- try the "Harald Challenge" without cracking a grin on your face.

The fastest way to lose my viewership is to interrupt yourself on your own video to tell me to sub rather than making good quality content. I won't be looking at any other of your videos for this reason. Made it through the first tip and you've already said it twice. If you're still into Civ 6 you can find my new video here: kzitem.info/news/bejne/sK54rYeqo4iHpW0 As for your question, I went and checked what tip2 was so I could answer you. I'll do my best to break it down for you. Basically it was explaining how you can maneuver things so that when you chop the tile underneath where you want your district or wonder to go that the production still goes into that same district or wonder. The easiest way to do this these days that I know of is to just simply use your production queue in the city. Right click on anything they are making at the time until the queue is completely empty and they aren't producing anything, then chop or harvest the tile, and then switch your production to your district or wonder and all of the production you got from chopping will be applied to help your thing build faster.

Found Voidsingers on my second turn as new Civ, so not only I am getting 15% from civs bonus but also another 20% from the secret society... I dont think I ever had such insane Science or Culture numbers in my life so early into the game. Did you start your Playthrough already?
@GamerGrampz
4 жыл бұрын
I started to record and was about halfway into the first episode when it crashed. The new videocard I got (didn't research it enough) has a known issue where if you're using it for 1440p or higher that the VRAM goes over 100 and then it crashes... sometimes the game and sometimes the computer. So I decided to say fuck it and I ordered a new replacement. I'm going to be starting a full playthrough over on a new map, but decided to continue the playthrough that the recording got fucked on offscreen so my first episode in the Ethiopia series won't be up until I beat that one. My daughter is going camping with her friends until Tuesday so I'm planning to game out hard over the weekend so it shouldn't take me very long before I'm uploading Ethiopia content
@GamerGrampz
4 жыл бұрын
Just a heads up, you aren't even getting the voidsinger bonus yet in your game btw... that culture and science is just from Ethiopia's own bonus. The culture and science and gold from the voidsingers doesn't get unlocked until you hit the medieval era
@Nyuuu08
4 жыл бұрын
@@GamerGrampz looking forward to see you play it. I guess I worded it wrong, the 15% bonus was enough to keep up with AI science without any campuses, just that + pingala. Also I had theater squares unlocked and second tier gov before first age ended, while having over 60 faith per turn. By medieval Age it was just plain out stupid, keeping up with the AI without any Campuses while being miles ahead in culture and tourism. Despite doing scout, settler, holy site, settler (found 2 vulcanos) into holy sites in every city, Jesuit education was only decent pick left, it felt amazing, you have so much faith that you don't even have to decide if you buy a settler or a building, just buy both. They definitely have hill bias, so many 2:2 or better tiles it's kinda insane.

@@Nyuuu08 Haha, yeah I know what you mean. I'm not even to the Medieval era in my playthrough and I'm styling. The best part is, I think I can actually get Apadana with this Civ which I haven't been able to do since like 2 patches ago... that shit is almost impossible on Deity for the past few months! What I'm planning on doing is I'm going to do a summary game with highlights of the game I'm playing right now offscreen and gonna do like an overview of the strategy jumping ahead 10 turns every time and explaining what happened and I'll put that out in a condensed video before I start my playthrough on a different map using the same strategy
