I find sirens of any sort to be fascinating technology, simple in use, yet rather crafty in its complexity. The science of sound, and especially of creating immense noise that's universally understood has to be something of a misnomer in a tech-heavy world where blips of noise are too-commonly accosiated with excitement or progress. Everything soundwise over the years has changed and evolved, but the Siren has no need.

It has two sets of choppers chopping the air at frequencies that are at a 4:5 ratio with one another. This specific frequency ratio creates a musical interval called a major third, which is one of the easiest intervals for our ears to recognize and is associated with happiness (think of the first two notes of Shoo Fly Don't Bother Me). Most of the other sirens go with a perfect fifth (2:3 ratio, siren at 8:19, think the first two notes of the Star wars theme) or a perfect fourth (3:4 ratio, siren at 7:20, first two notes of here comes the bride) because it's probably easier/cheaper. A few sirens go with a minor third (5:6 ratio, siren at 6:22, first two notes of Iron Man by black sabbath) because the minor third is associated with feelings of sadness/fear. It's kinda weird.

Alternate Wail, also known as the fire signal in fire departments with electronic sirens or sirens with solenoids, is the signal Friendship Fire Department of Chambersburg, PA uses for calls when summoning the volunteers to the station for a run that could ultimately turn into a job. These volunteer firefighters don’t know if they’re saying their last goodbye to their wife, girlfriend, or boyfriend as they run out the door and speed to the fire station to don their turnout gear, hop on the apparatus; and go to the address of the alarm, fire, or motor vehicle accident (MVA). Firefighters both career and volunteer put their lives on the line upon walking into danger, not knowing if they’ll come out alive.

Devon Manaseri If you can't even hear the siren, then It's busted. Also, those sirens are actually rather popular. However, if you really want a reason to hate electric sirens, listen to an ATI HPSS-32 or an ATI HPSS-16.
@SirFloofy001

Nah you can hear it outside just fine but in a heavy storm you cant hear it in the trailer from 100 feet away. Being in a trailer park you would think they would install a siren that could be heard inside a trailer so you we could oh idk get to a shelter in the event of a tornado.

Being retired from county management, I need to say that any town that still uses the 'Alert' for an all clear, is playing a fools game. There was a town in Kansas some 30 years ago that did this same thing as well as we did, and on one day a second tornado was heading into town and they activated the 'Alert' segment of the outdoor warning sirens. The people of the town thought it was an 'All Clear' then started coming up out of their basements. Investigators figured some 5 people died needlessly that day due to that policy of blowing an 'All Clear' because they came up out of shelter thinking it was an 'All Clear.' Our city dropped this policy many years ago or right after this incident actually occurred. So now people know that if they hear the 'Alert Phase' of the sirens, then they know that there is another sever storm or tornado coming into town and stay under cover. Otherwise this is a great collection of various sirens and will give some people a sense of the many types that are out there. Thank you for placing these on here and editing them the way you did. Best regards.

That thing is pretty much the loudest siren in existence. And the way it’s designed, with no visible rotor or air holes, is even more impressive. The entire siren mechanism is inside that “sound cannon” of sorts, and the silver metal tube that you _can_ see is the air intake for it.

We had a 6 o'clock whistle in my town growing up. I liked hearing it because it meant dinner time for me. There was also a scary version of it when there was a fire or bad accident in town. It was like the 6 o'clock whistle except there were loud horns that would repeatedly sound at the same time as the whistle. Sometimes it would go off late at night. You knew that something bad was happening in town. I miss hearing those whistles. I had a friend who lived right down the street from the fire department. Holy Crap.... that thing was loud at his house. I probably would have hated it if I had to live right next to it.

Those sirens can be used for multipurpose in case of a threat such as : 1- Severe weather. 2- Tsunami. 3- nuclear meltdown. Etc ... Generally they're "Warning Sirens" since they can be used for more purposes. If they were only for tornados then their purposes will be limited if you know what I mean 😉 So it's best to call it *Warning Sirens* 👍
