The Cali Texas alliance seems non sensical at first but if both states seceded for different reasons, and were both attacked by Washington as a result, they would likely put their differences aside; at least for a time.

Also, Texas and California have the most resources aside from Alaska. So in theory, it would be more realistic to fight the US military with resource rich states vs much of the smaller states like the ones on the east coast

It may not make sense now, but over time, demographics can change. Today, the demographics of the United States are opposite of what they were back in 1860. To give you perspective of what they were back then, Lincoln won California in the 1860 presidential election.

You know i just wondered, if civil war does break out you should consider the following. Would drig cartels and other terrorists jump in to claim land? I mean that should be a factor right? Not to mention canada or russia potentially annexing alaska
@centex7409

The nuclear arsenal usually excludes any land grabs from other powers. Highly unlikely whoever gets control of the nukes would deploy any of them in the civil war, because every external power would absolutely move against them.. That's not to say the other powers would have no involvement. They would move arms up through Mexico and land then in ports by the shiploads. They would have their reasons for supporting one or even all factions. The Cartels would go from drug running to delivering arms as the external powers pay them to do so. But the big question would indeed be who has control of what nuclear weapons.. When the Soviets collapsed, they did so with only minor skirmishes and nothing approaching a full blown civil war. People were nervous, but it was understood everyone was going to be responsible with the Soviet nuclear arsenal. I can tell you right now that it will likely NOT be the case with us... In fact, it might even cause outside direct interference justified by fears of a confused and dysfunctional control over nuclear weapons.. So yes, it can slice both ways depending on how it goes. New previously unidentified factions will rise, along with expected ones. Alliances will form and break constantly. Group infighting will be rampant. Worst of all, people will settle scores in blood. Many will be murdered by people they thought friends or quiet neighbors, unaware some slight many years ago had them planning to murder them all these years.. And now in such a war, solving murders becomes near impossible.. Everyone who has someone on their list is going to exploit the situation.. Many of the dead will have nothing to do with the war. And there will be people, both individuals and groups, just murdering for their own amusement. Now for the really sad part: After the war ends, everyone is damaged. Especially the kids. For a two generations at least, many people will have very lowered thresholds to violence. After you've slaughtered people you knew who likely begged you by name not to kill them, wasting some stranger over a slight is going to be difficult not to do. Civil wars are the absolutely worst kind of war. Because the enemy knows you and you know them. You know how to really hurt each other. And yeah, sometimes the lines run through families.

Actually I’ve learned this is basically why, in leave the world behind, they couldn’t go back to the city, because this is what was going on while they went on vacation. So you can call this part 2. Put it all together, the timeline fits. People be awake to this, predictable programming hints you on what’s to come. For the 20 years, I’ve always had a bug out bag…I never trusted the gov’t. I had a lot of family in the military (marines and army) so I’ve always been taught to be aware. Always be ready, sometimes things can just happen.

Alot of people are saying the texas and cali alliance is illogical but we have to remember that those two states are 2 of the largest states that are very good for a strategic advantage. Alsoo we dont know the whole situation that is taking place in the movie. Like we cant put our reality of how politics are on to this movie because im positive the movie version of the united states and its political machinations are very different.

There's a lot of things people aren't picking up on in the trailer and instead they're fixating on Cali and Texas alliance. 19 states have seceded from the Union, Florida "alliance" is mentioned, but only Cali and Texas are seen as enemy states in direct combat with the federal government (at least for the period in which we're in the story). "Three term president" is also mentioned. So, it's not hard to imagine Offerman is playing the Christofascist leader who became the dictator, and 19 states then seceded from the Union. The three states with the largest military power are California, Virginia and Texas. if Virginia is still under the control of the dictator, then it makes sense that Cali and Texas would join forces as they would have the military power to combat Virginia.

Most of those I see writing reviews of this movie use a lot of words to say very little. It shows their complete lack of knowledge about the many far right groups around this country who have been preparing for another civil war that they call the Boogaloo. Or how law enforcement has completely ignored the threat of White supremacist terrorist groups in the US. There were signs of them with the bombing of the FBI building in Oklahoma City in April 1995. Yet it took a march on the Capitol in Jan 2021 for law enforcement in this country to finally realize that those domestic terrorist groups were a real threat.
