Too far gone. To repair and bring to current code would easily be 200k or more. There is a ton of red tape that raises the cost to repair or rehab historic homes too. We had about 20 historic designated homes in my town destroyed by a tropical storms flooding. You cant just tear off the damage and put new stuff up. The repairs have to match the historic look of the house. Often means customs materials since the originals are often 100 plus years old and havent been made in 80 years. Out of the 20 deemed total loss, only 2 were repaired. One was 356k the other nearly 430k. 90% of the cost was having custom products made to match the original design. The other houses were demolished due to the cost to repair. Once you use the word historic, stuff gets expensive really quick.

@@tugboat_actual correct if you gut it and make it modern then it's not historic.... Rock and a hard place.

Instead of demolishing this important part of history, it should've been restored and left there. Why does America have to keep destroying so much of our history?? 😢😫

As someone who lives and works in a city with hundreds kf old historic homes. Once the house gets to a certain stage of disrepair, there is no saving them. To keep up a historic house is very very expensive. Once there are foundation issues, that is the last straw 99% of time. We tear down many historic places because they werent maintained for years. Sadly cannot save them all

You really can't save it. Budget has to be a concern. I believe my father is wanting to rebuild a new house place. I believe the best I could do was digitally record it and share it with others before it was lost to time. Hopefully this video will stay up for another hundred years.

@@wildcatwillyi wish we could save them. My city is 202 years old, so we have thousands of them. I sadly have to pull the plug on so many each year and condemn them. The only bright side is that the house that is replacing them old ones must be built to the same appearance of the area. Just sucks being the one to make the call to condemn historic buildings. I feel like each time condemn one, i am erasing a part of my hometowns story and personality. Im just up the road from st augustine. I dont think i could bring myself to be a city inspector there. 450 years of history in some of the buildings.
