I got the idea for this episode, while driving into Gettysburg and saw one monument in particular, and I remember what Author and Historian Harry Pfanz, wrote about the monument (watch to see the monument I'm speaking about). He also wrote about another monument and the controversy surrounding that monument as well. Both monuments were placed in the 1880's, more than 20 years after the battle. But in both cases, the desire to be forever immortalized for the deeds the monuments were claiming burned very strong.
Tell me what you think. Did the Gettysburg Battlefield Commission get it right when they decided in both cases?
My main source for this episode was: Gettysburg the First Day; by Harry Pfanz.
