My first thoughts on playing the demo was wow, Call to Power. Call to Power has long been one of my favourite Civ games and I'm pleased to see some of its inspirational ideas revisited. I'm also a fan of Paradox grand strategy, but prefer turn based, so another plus - deep complex turn based Civ. It's a win win. Hope it lives up to expectations.

Im seeing and seems to look that in Millenia there is a clearly inspiration in the mechanics of Paradox Interactive Studios games and I think that will be refreshing and also for the narrative The example is that the player seems to be the spirit of the nation like in Eu4 and not a inmortal leader like in CIV or Humankind.
@Diogo_CF
Жыл бұрын
I didn't get that at all from the chapter The Civilizations. I interpret JumboPixel as saying that you design a blank state leader and then you add traits according to the national spirits you accumulate during gameplay. No family tree, no substituting your leader for another, no individual stats to boost or nerf certain abilities. It's kinda disappointing: I was expecting something akin to Crusader Kings or Old World.

It may sound silly, but the cartoony art style of Civ 6 is the main reason I've stuck with Civ V all these years. Glad to see Millennia is going for the more realistic style, even if the graphics admittedly seems to need some improvements. Also kind of glad to see Millennia not going for a leader avatar. As much as I love the Civ games, the immortal god type leader that you basically have in those games has always felt a bit strange to me.

Question: if there's a turn timer for the game to transfer from one Age to another, does that mean during that "interim" period there will be flavoured events that pop up to help the player immerse themselves on how and why there is a major shift in the human history that defines the changing of the ages? I really hope it's not just "ok, this thing will happen in 30 turns, better be prepared for the game mechanics to change and *PLOP* now the things are different just because game said so".

There is actually a really interesting, four part lunar mission. It integrates extra options for each mission (broadcast it to your people if you have radio, or try and take shots of the dark side of the moon if you’re explorers). You don’t *actually* travel (the game doesn’t turn into Stellaris or anything), but the mission events are interesting. They also always carry a risk of failure - a nice change over just shipping space ship parts to a capital city. And yes - quite a few buildings I’ve seen relate to it. Space research centres, rocket facilities, that kind of thing. Edit: techs go into the future - space orbital lasers capable of wiping out cities are a thing.

I wonder how the age system would work with continents. Let's say the Age of Blood is picked, but the player is on another continent with now way to get to yours. So your Age of Blood might be spent building monuments. I think it would be better for each player to get to pick the age that fits their situation rather than set it for the map as a whole and force everyone into a specific playstyle for that age.

Loved colony creation I think it started in Civ 3 then after time, the colonies asked to go independent. Call to Power, I liked the introduction of bio weapons and terrorism. Looking for these and added diplomacy. In Call to Power I loved how you can not allow nuclear weapons, forbid a civilization to research nuclear weapons, and limit pollution in diplomacy. I'm aging myself but does anyone remember, Destiny? It was supposed to be a next gen type of Civilization many years ago. It was cancelled. Almost all the AAA developers' games have impressive graphics. It has proven to improve sales, attract an audience to try the product. Underwhelming graphics on a game the audience often does not even try the product. Gameplay/A.I. are the most important, but graphics go a long way to immersion/opinions on how good a game is.

Stop insulting any game by comparing it with civilization6. no game deserves this insult. Civ5+6 are VERY poorly balanced, to a point where civ6 is merely a 1x "game" and not even 4x, because groups of over 5 offensive/hunting archers are way too strong, and easily stronger than groups of the same amount of defensive/surrounded archers. - 1 unit per tile limit lasts too long, and large groups of archers take advantage of this. - terrain is too flat, making defenses against archers way too weak. - anti archer things need too much research and are not as efficient, because tech tree is silly and because of all of the above. so this is how you play cviv6 if you want to win efficiently, on ANY difficulty, even as complete novice: - never build any settler (archers are better) - never build any worker (archers are better) - never build any city improvement, not even the military district (archers are better) - constantly have as many archers as you can, the more the better. - only have as many melee units as you need for capturing cities, emptied by archers. - only build a many transport ships as you REALLY need, which is only relevant after you rushed and captured most of your continent, long before archers get weak or obsolete, and you likely won the game by then already, so its not that it matters much what you do from there. civ6 is all about archers. at least civ6 is 80% about archers and 20% about having many small underdeveloped cities /(by any means needed, ideally by archer rushing, but civ5 cities have slightly better FREE defense than civ6 cities)
