I really like this knife. Great for the money. The elementum is great too but this one is more my thing. I prefer a larger blade. I also like tactical knives as well as gentlemans carry and everything in between. I like knives for every occasion. I went with the serrated version because I wanted the ability to cut through fiberous materials for my work. This guy is exacly what I was looking for when i decided to buy another button lock.

Mine had terrible lock stick at first, but resting your thumb over the button when you deploy, seems to mitigate it completely. Factory edge went dull pretty quick, but I haven't used since sharpening, and it did take a screaming edge. Love your channel mate, it's been a great source of info for my own purchases. @@valvofolife ahhh graphite powder is a good idea! Mine goes away with CPL but then comes back but its brand new legit got it in today. I did notice the blade has the slightest bit of side to side creep and play, almost jus rocks back and forth side to side. Its not play side to side but its not rick solid either. My own Cogent was a little stiff out of the box. I loosened the pivot screw just a tiny bit and it moves easily now-maybe a little too easily since it bounces right back out of the frame most of the time when I just let it drop down-I’m going to tighten that screw just slightly to see if that helps. Otherwise I haven’t done anything to change the way it came from the factory. There’s absolutely no blade rock in any direction. I also have no lock stick issues, tho I’ve seen others talk about it. Seems like maybe the manufacturing process allows for a little deviation, knife to knife.

Yes there is, but first if it's only a small amount just make sure the lock face is dry, that's usually the issue. Also a little is good not bad because it assures its locked up with no rock, however if it's really bad take your spring out and squeeze it, compress it so it's not as strong also making sure your lock face is dry. If you get a bit of rock in the future just stretch it

I got it as a gift so I can’t return it . On the other hand the conspirator is smooth as silk so … Edit . Took apart and looked to see and didn’t notice much except a tiny ridge on the button I think the blade rides on . I think it’s the black coating on the blade where the button locks up . It’s half black coated and half shiny and I think the black coating is making the button ride rough . If I mess with it the lock up would t ever be the same so I contacted civivi . @clem8fan

@@NeevesKnives yeah it is, it looks like it's rubbing on the bottom of the top part of the button when I depress it completely. Typically when you press the button down fully the bottom of the top part of the button won't contact the blade but on this one it does. I've never seen a button lock do this before. Usually it will either have a lip to prevent pressing the button too far in or it won't contact the blade when it's depressed fully. No idea how to fix this except for just getting used to the correct depth of deployment but it definitely isn't like my others (Babylon, TS313, Elementum BL, etc.).

BL Elementum vs. Cogent: I’ll take the Hollow over the Flat Grind. Like the option of two deployments but the Button Lock is a solid design. Like the Micarta (sp) over the G10. I’d like the scales on the Elementum more if contoured. The BL Elementum is rock solid… no blade rock. Of the two I’m thinking I prefer the the BL Elementum, but would like a third party to offer some contoured burlap Micarta scales, or maybe titanium. If Civivi made another version with a flipper or even just improved scales, I’d buy another one but it’s a good solid design as is.

Action seems cool, i will never pay 70 bucks for 14c28n. Thats for 40 dollar knives.
@NeevesKnives
2 жыл бұрын
That's a ridiculous statement, 14c28n can be found on more affordable knives just like s35 is found on 70$ knives and 300$ knives. The grind and heat treatment are what's important. 14c28n is an amazing steel even when it's done cheaply, but when done with a great heat treatment it's even better. I did a controlled cut test with their 14c28n and it got amazing results. But you can go and buy a knife with a number of steel your happy with that has a poor heat treatment and horrible results. That's like saying getting m390 for 30$ is amazing NO! YOU JUST BOUGHT SOME BUTTER SOFT STEEL THAT WONT EVEN OUT CUT 440C
@Jsummer4004
2 жыл бұрын
@@NeevesKnives i did not say it was garbage, it just isnt appropriate for that price category. The last knife that i had with 14c28n was a kershaw blur, and i paid about 40 bucks for it. It was a decent knife but nothing amazing 14c28n takes a good edge but does not hold it very long, so you will sharpen it often. It doesn't matter how good the "grind" is, you will be re grinding that knife from sharpening anyway. For 70 bucks id rather have d2 or something in that neighborhood.
@NeevesKnives
2 жыл бұрын
@@Jsummer4004 majority of d2 will be out cut by this 14c, d2 is a finicky steel for companies to heat treat it wasn't meant for production heat treatment and it has poor corrosion resistance. 14c28n was actually made to be heat treated in production levels, so they can get consistent results in large batches. And it was actually made for blades. 14c28n is a very tough steel, great edge retention especially with higher hrc, and great corrosion resistance. My cut test got similar results to s35vn. Companies like civivi are doing a decent job with their d2, but majority of companies are not. Kind of like m390. M390 is a super steel if done well, if not then you would rather have 440c or something. 14c28n is an incredible steel that gets consistent results from companies. And when companies like civivi are doing it at higher hrc than most it's performance goes up a lot. It's all about the heat treatment and the steel that's being heat treated and how well it's being done

I love my Civivi knives but this was a disappointment. Maybe I got a dud but there are some design issues too. The detent on mine was weak and mushy. It was very easy to fail and couple that with the slightly obscured flipper, it was not a fun flipper. Also, the jimping behind the flipper is unnecessary and your finger can drag on it. I would gladly pay 3x the price for a Malibu that has a crisp deployment, better ergos , and better blade materials.
