Would adding a thumb stud actually work? From what I've heard, (and I don't have one in hand), the lock is actually a....lock! The blade just won't deploy without pushing the button. So a thumb stud, or flipper, just wouldn't solve the problem on their own(?) There would have to be some work on the button mechanism to, I guess, lighten the detent to some reasonable level(?)
@ORG4Runna

Yes it actually locks closed and you need to press the button to unlock it.

Yeah they'd need to redesign it with a detent ramp in the lockhole.

As the other noted, the button lock must be depressed to deploy the blade. Not sure why folks would want to change the very nature of this design.

Same. I was super excited about this until I saw it wasn't a flipper. A simple button lock is acceptable for something cheap like a utility knife but I feel like I would hate it on a pocket knife.

It's been my EDC for weeks now. Mechanism is perfect for me. Couldn't be easier. I can open it without flicking it. I push the button as I angle the knife down and slightly rotate my hand at the same time just using gravity. Just before the blade reaches the lock position I release the button. It's all in one smooth motion. It happens so easily and so fast, my friend thought it was a switchblade. I don't generally fidget with knives, but it seems to be perfect for that too. I like that there are no thumb studs. A flipper tab wouldn't work and is also superfluous. That is kind of the point of the design IMHO. No need for anything but the button. Not sure why this confuses or disappoints so many, but to each their own. Yeah, an auto would be cool. It would be even cooler if the actuating button was the the Civivi pivot logo. I imagine that would involve some tricky engineering though.The way it is now, the placement of the button detracts a bit from the overall look of the knife. It looks like something added on after the design was already finished (which in a way, it was). The back spacer on mine does stick up ever so slightly and the the factory grind wasn't perfect on mine. It was just a slight over grind toward the tip on one side, but it came hair popping sharp. The plastic-like scales are the biggest disappointment. They feel ok though and the ergos are pretty damn good. I'd feel even better if they priced it around $50 and had better micarta. If it were up to me, I'd have contoured scales that fully cover the liners. Even thought they are minor faults, Civivi should get a handle on its QC. WE got a good rep for maintaining super high standards and then continued it with their Civivi line. If they start sacrificing QC - and now quality with the cheap (or at least cheap looking) micarta - to move more units or get them out faster, they might come to regret that. All of that being said, overall, I have to call the BLE a winner.

I was in a shop buying a Spyderco Manix and the sales clerk and I were chatting, looking at other knives. I asked what he carried. He pulled out this CIVIVI Button Lock Elementum. Really nice. I bought the Manix, and this CIVIVI also! I’ve been fidgeting around with both the Manix and this Elementum, and I am so impressed with this knife. It is very high quality the action, and I appreciate a clean design without snags. The Manix is a superlative EDC, but it is a little beast and rides in my strong side back pocket. This Button Lock Elementum rides in my strong side front pocket unobtrusively and with such a snag-free design it disappears in the pocket until I want it and then that beautiful action deploys lightning quick. Blade locks up solid as a bank vault and the 14C28N is a no-kidding serious steel.

The way Civivi does such thin edges on their hollow grinds, 14c28n really does make a lot more sense than D2. I guess they're now using Nitro-V with the same benefits. Such high value steels. Still love D2, but variety is a great thing.

This is an awesome knife but it definitely needs a thumb stud or a flipper tab before I buy one. I just don't wanna have too flick my wrist every time I open my knife. Theirs just too many other great knives that are comparable or better that I don't have to do that.

I know on your M1 backpacker you just got you were talking about putting scales on it, I'm sure you saw them already but I thought I'd let you know that they sell OEM scales in orange or black for them. I was looking at picking them up today. I saw them on eBay.

A thumb stud would not work on this knife. The button lock locks the blade BOTH open and closed, so the flicking of a thumb stud would not work unless the button locks pushed simultaneously. If your dream knife needs a thumb stud (or a flipper), there are many knives out there that would satisfy your needs...this design is perfect in and all on it's own.

A thumb stud will not work on this knife due to the lock design. This knife has an extremely basic button lock design, compared to more complicated versions that have a sort of "detent" similar to a ball on a lock bar, allowing them to be opened with a flipper or stud. Civivi took the lazy route, in other words.
