Your explanation makes perfect sense. I always wondered why Lee's description of Muay Thai was nearly word for word what was described by Robert W Smith in his seminal Asian Fighting Arts work. I would have to say that I would question both Smith and Lee as to why they didn't have a higher opinion of Muay Thai? I think time has kind of proven how functional Thai Boxing is. Smith made some comparisons between Thai and Burmese Boxing with a more favorable opinion of the Burmese (he noted that Burmese generally won mixed Burmese Thai matches due to weight advantages). The reality is that both Muay Thai and Lethwei are brutal martial sports with a lot of transfer for real world self defense. Lee seems to have been almost unaware of it. His student, Dan Inosanto, was the one who introduced Thai Boxing to the JKD community and realized its value. Good video, thanks.

That you have to still remind people of this fact, Chris - something you to me and my classmates some 40 years ago - saddens me. That you still do so with patience and clarity is nothing short of amazing. Fist Bump.

Hi. I want to ask if it's possible for me to research Wing Chun so I can fully understand JKD?
