Of all the pas de deuxs in all of the ballets I’ve seen, This one is the one that always stands out in my mind. Patricia Barker is stunning, elegant, light on her feet, breathtaking to watch. She makes it look like she’s floating, as if it’s effortless. No one can top this.

This is from Pacific Northwest Ballet. Kent Stowell choreography and Maurice Sendak of Where the Wild Thing fame. The prima Ballerina is a young Patricia Barker. I had the pleasure of seeing her in many original productions at PNB when I was a little girl. Until recently this was the Nutcracker production seen in Seattle Wa. The new director from NYC unsurprisingly went back to the same old Balanchine choreography seen everywhere and put these beautiful costumes in Storage. BOO! I do hope they bring it back some day. The whole production is stunning! Worth a watch and available on DVD for those that want to see the whole thing.

OK....this version is stunning. The choreography is simple but elegant and beautifully executed. Follows the music in lock step. Sets are stunning. Male dancer uses his line to compliment all the partnering. Female dancer is exquisite!!!

Ok so, why is this the only version in almost 40 yrs of watching this ballet that melts me 😭. This PNB production and film have never been topped for me. So beautiful. Thankfully my Mom had it on VHS. I blame it for never really being completely happy with any since. Patricia Barker?! Oh wow! Just her gestures and movement stepping out to the light before she dances are poetry. The way she and Wade move through this part and the finale is unmatched for me. The close ups and tracking shots are used perfectly. Ughh, Forever my favorite❤️ 👏🎄💐 ( Kirkland is a goddess no doubt just love this version best)

I love this version and the first time I saw this version, this Prince has been my favorite of all. I think he is just absolutely gorgeous. I love the way he dances; he is handsome and dashing. I think he absolutely captured the spirit and essence of the Nutcracker Cavalier.

Have always enjoyed this (and their other variations in act II). From her acting when she 1st enters, the scene pace without rushing into an 'OK now let's dance ballet!'', to the way they first touch hands... everything just perfectly placed. Was sad to see PNB retire this Nutcracker version. Patricia Barker was perfectly cast in this.

I remember seeing this when it first came out and I was so very proud because as a young girl, for me, it put the Pacific Northwest on the map of the world. Now, years later I am still watching it and am so proud that I am from the beautiful Pacific Northwest. This Nutcracker version was fantastic and beautiful.

The special effects that go into the slipper toss are really something. The soldiers cheering and then realizing they haven't won YET is really effective as is the Nutcracker to get Clara off the sidelines to do her part, just as the story suggests.
