Brilliant footage and so nostalgic. I hope the WRC opens again some time soon. Great infrastructure and would take a lot of traffic from the roads

Truly excellent! Wonderful memories and great to see Tua in the cinema film. My late relative Bill Mannion tried hard to keep the railway open and let’s hope the planned re-opening takes place soon! Regards from Rob in Bournemouth, England.

Great footage, I think that most, if not all is from the 1970's, not 1980's. The black and tan loco's, as well as the grey liveried wagons were well gone by the 1980's.

wow Tuam looked like quiet a big station a lot of freight and sidings throughout I wish I'd seen these times as a kid I'm 26 now and galway has very little to see of the railways nowadays

Fantastic footage of the way it was , big trains with all types of rolling stock and mixed livery doubles.

That’s what got me hooked on Irish railways! The variety was something else.

Perhaps this was the early 1970s with B158's livery. Superb video.

Just before Ireland was covered in concrete and tarmac and the country's railways were shunted into a forgotten corner.

There has been substantial growth in both road and rail passenger traffic in Ireland so this idea of yours of a forgotten corner for railways is wrong.

Wonderful archive footage of the glory days of Irelands railways before they were replaced with uncomfortable trams that have no food.

Some aspects were better in terms of more route mileage open to traffic. Speed were slow, with few services and probably expensive compared to today.

Lovely Footage from Days gone by!😃.Do you think the Western Rail Corrider will ever open to Claremorris and on to Sligo?.Also what happened to West Rail Locomotives E430 and the Ruston? Are they still in Tuam?.What are the West Rail Sheds like today?.Is their any old Iarnrod Eireann Carriage or Locomotive Stock in the Sheds?.Who owns the West Rail Base now?.

Excellent film footage. Especially 2: 141's, in 1960's livery, pulling Mk 2 "Supertrain" liveried carriages. Also an 071 hauling an excursion. Tuam was an Active looking freight spot.

Sure was an active spot. Closed down by stealth over many years.
