Clarence "Laddie" Jobe is a 2020 Alumni Hall of Fame inductee. Laddie is a graduate of the ALHS Class of 1964.
Laddie joined the Navy after high school. Following his Navy service, he joined the Des Moines Police Department. During his 33-year career with the Des Moines Police Department, he moved up through the ranks, spending much time in working on crimes against persons. Laddie attended and graduated from the FBI Academy, Quantico, Virginia, after which he continued to work on homicide cases. Additionally he took on recruiting and training new officers at the Des Moines Regional Police Academy. His ongoing homicide work included solving some of the highest profile cases of his time: the murder of three teen boys who were shot and killed while cleaning a downtown building; the Drake Diner killings; the torture and murder of two elderly women; and the case of a murdered infant found in a garbage can. A 1995 CITYVIEW headline stated that Des Moines homicide cops rank among the nation’s best when it comes to finding solutions.
Laddie spoke to many community groups about being safe from crime and drugs and to parent groups about drugs on the street. His last role at DMPD was a Lieutenant in the Narcotics and Vice Department. He received many accolades from the Drug Enforcement Agency, FBI, U.S. Attorney, U.S. Marshall, and U.S. Postal Inspectors, for his integrity and leadership, and reflecting a career of protecting and serving his community.
In retirement he serves on several police boards and committees, continuing to serve his community.
