SAN ANTONIO - Meet Michael and Charlie Weiner, twins at Clark High School who graduated with distinct honors. They say ‘sibling support’ propelled them to success.
“I am graduating as valedictorian of Tom C. Clark High School,” said Michael.
“I’m going to be the salutatorian of Clark High School,” said Charlie.
Caps off to the twins!
“We both do debate,” said Charlie. “We're the team co-captains.”
They’re sophomore transfers to Clark, who moved to the head of the class.
“We both got our report cards back that January, and we were ranked one and two,” remembered Charlie. “So yeah, it was a pleasant surprise. I definitely didn't come in expecting that.”
“It's an accomplishment that I worked very hard towards, and I'll always be proud of it,” said Michael. “And I can look back - just a reminder that I'm capable. Transferring into a new environment. I was able to make the most of it."
Sibling rivalry? Not in the classroom.
“I had someone that's going through the exact same thing, and we'd always talk about our homework or whatever,” said Michael.
“I kind of have, like, a built-in friend and competitor at the same time. We do compete, but we're able to collaborate and bounce off of each other. So we're in it together,” explained Charlie.
Maybe a little competitive elsewhere.
“Very recent and a very vivid example of his basketball abilities,” Michael said with a laugh.
“I don't think one shot I took can sort of hit left of the court, though I went over the, well, the fence was so low. If it was, if it was higher or if it was indoors, there's no court for it to go out,” Charlie said with a chuckle.
“We've never raced,” said Charlie. “I've asked him to a couple times, but he just wanted to sprint against me, and after he did track for a year.”
Twins identical in appearance but not in college selections.
“Duke University and biology,” said Michael.
“I'm going to UT Austin. I'm going to double major in business and government,” said Charlie.
Next stop college, and neither are phased to separate for the first time.
“It'll be kind of weird because I have friends that are going to UT, so it'll kind of feel like high school, but like, the one thing that I've had my entire life, just won't be there,” said Charlie.
“We have phones now, so we'll be in touch for sure,” said Michael. “It's gonna be weird. We've never been apart for that long. So we'll have to see.”
