With the beginning of the 2024 railtour season, a few sprinkled railtours would be operating throughout January as per usual.
One of the tours operated by Intercity which is a tour division of Locomotive Services Limited advertised a tour called 'The East Anglian Push-Pull' with Class 47 47712 and the Scotrail DBSO set which aimed to recreate the days of loco hauled mainline services between London Liverpool Street and Norwich in the early 80's.
This tour would head on pretty much all lines within Norfolk and Suffolk with it spanning over two days starting at Crewe with a break at Norwich overnight and stored at the Eastern Rail Services sidings at Great Yarmouth and day two ending at Crewe again.
All of this was recorded at Whitlingham Junction just outside of Norwich on the Wherry and Bittern Lines!
The tour route :
Day 1 - Crewe - Stafford - Nuneaton - Leicester - Peterborough - Ely North Junction - Kings Lynn - Ely - Ipswich - Felixstowe Beach - Felixstowe Town - Norwich
Day 2 - Norwich - Ipswich - Lowestoft - Norwich - Cromer - Sheringham - Cromer - Norwich - Great Yarmouth - Wensum Curve - Ely - Peterborough - Leicester - Nuneaton - Stafford - Crewe
This would see the first use of Mk3a stock on the Felixstowe Branch of the East Suffolk Line, the East Suffolk Line as a whole and the Bittern Line. Before the tour began, there was talks about the issue with the tour heading up to Sheringham as they are not permitted on the line, but in the end they did.
