Class 47 ROG ‘Rail Group Operations’ movement of GWR Class 43 HST’s for scrap.
This is a short video of my ‘work in progress’ model of a ‘Rail Group Operations’ movement of Hornby Railroad Class 43 HST’s following decommission for scrap.
The decommission of the GWT HST’s are due to commence at the end of 2023 so I decided I would model the planned movements which would normally consist of a ROG engine like the Class 47 I’ve used in the video along with a barrier coach and then three HST cars for each movement.
I’ve decided to use the Hornby Railroad 2022 HST which is made from the old Lima tooling, I’m aware these aren’t exactly accurate with the incorrect headlights, roof grilles etc, however they are only going for scrap for modelling purposes.
But using this version of HST makes it more viable to model at a reasonable cost, the three HST cars cost me £120 in total (£40 per model), and the pro’s to using this version means they have NEM sockets and better bogies.
I’ve used two dummy cars, and one power car for this scrap consist. The power car has been stripped of its motor and cogs to allow the wheels to run freely, however using a power car allowed me to reuse the wheel pick ups and wiring so I can wire in a DCC Concepts EOT lamp.
The two dummy cars have had the front nose access panel removed to allow couplings to be fitted, the nose was filled with plasticard, then a hole drilled to allow fitment of a Hunt magnetic coupling which was then glued in place, I also attached a NEM hose coupling underneath to one of the dummy cars, the other side wasn’t attached as this allows movement of the dummy cars on corners.
Once the barrier coach and EOT are completed I’ll then move on to weathering the HST’s in more detail for scrap.
