A day off, so its a quick early morning visit to catch a rare moment of history - The Galloway Fifties railtour with 50007/34 on point followed by 50049.
It's no coincidence that my Electricians business logo is similar to that of the Vulcan Foundry in Newton-le-Willows, as that's where we live. It's also where the Class 50's were built, and 50010 rolled off the production line on my birthday, so for all sorts of reasons this was a special day. It's not often a class 50 rolls this way, let alone two! So quite fitting in this, the 30th year of their preservation, that they come home in their striking GBRf livery, or at least give it a wave as they pass on the West Coast Mainline.
The final destination for this railtour is Stranraer, before they rumble past again later tonight.
Note. "In mid-2021 one side of 50007 was temporarily re-designated as 50034 "Furious" as a thank you to GBRf charter manager Paul Taylor for his prostate cancer charity fundraising efforts; Furious was his favourite class 50" - SVR
