Initially did not understand that ‘self’ like ‘this’ in Java has a special meaning in Python and passes the object name. Great job.

To my understanding now, self means the object name being called. Because in class there can be lot of objects being created and self will default to that object.

DOJO! I have only watched a bit so far but I have already noticed something special about your style of instruction. I want to say thank you for bringing out subtleties such as intentionally using different names for the formal parameters and the class variables! Using the same name is a wonderful convention, but by initially breaking that convention, students are much less likely to assume that they have to match for the code to work. This subtlety is important for a computer science student to progress from writing a little python to actually understanding what they're doing! Kudos!

I believe you can do it like this 'def introduce_self(): print ("hello my name is Tom") print ("I am Red") print ("I weigh 30 lbs")' and then call the function with 'introduce_self()'

I'm just learning Python, and just started 'experimenting' with object creation. I'd just like to say thank you for clearing up some mis-comprehensions. I'd been getting various error messages so far, now I see why. To other noobies I would just say 2 Underline before and after the init statement, and notice the use of brackets in the video when first creating object. All these had not been made clear in other video's I had watched on the subject!! Many Thanks!!

I'm not sure that I can like this quick video enough. I'm a few weeks in to learning Python after experimenting with javascript and then C#. I knew concepts of classes and objects, but the book I have been reading was not clear enough for me to understand - in particular the (self) piece. we just learnt about classes and objects in our class but our teaches didn't explain it well. everywhere online it's the same vague definition but your video was so simple and easy to understand. this video along with the language independent classes and objects video made everything clear to me in a vey short amount of time. Great work man. And good job in explaining we can set diffferent parameter names and then saying the conventional method is to use para meter and argument to be the same. This clears a lot of confusions for beginners. Thanks❤

I edited a bit of the class so I can also print both color and weight: def introduce_self(self): print("Name is: " + self.name) print("Color: " + self.color) print("Weight: " + str(self.weight)) I added a string cast to weight since concatenating strings and integers cannot be done unless the integer is converted to string.

I always struggled with classes when I knew only Python. It was the Java which taught me how to do the OOP. That way, I learned to do OOP in Python. :)

In a roundabout way he mentioned that the constructor method handles the task of populating object attributes (and even calling on on object's methods, which is a little more advanced), but I think he should have mentioned that constructors also reduce redundancy and help to clean up code. So much of coding isn't about writing new lines of code, it's about refactoring (pulling out the similarities).
