The story I love best about the filming is that the BBC invited fans to come and play the aliens in a completely not about getting a bunch of unpaid extras sort of way. I don't know how the fans were selected, but apparently, they spent their whole time there arguing with the director that their particular alien wouldn't do this or that, or wouldn't stand next to Kevin's alien because they were sworn enemies, etc, and he was going to RUIN the show.

The BBC are uploading all the existing stories to their I Player service. But tge last I heard was that the very first story may not be made available as the son of the writer is withholding the copyright. This is why I'm glad I collected the DVDs. Background if you want to know more: Because Antony Coburn was _commissioned_ to write "An Unearthly Child" by Sydney Newman and Verity Lambert, the main drivers in the group of people responsible for devising Dr Who, his son Stef believes Antony was the creator of Dr Who and wants shed loads of money. He has issued a statement via the app formerly known as Twitter which reads "Regarding the hysterical hatred coming my way from the entitled outraged 'fans' of Doctor Who, I should say that, in the event of my death, I have bequeathed ALL my father's DW related copyrights, to an ENEMY of the BBC, possessing ALL the resources required to act against them." Stef Antony Coburn is a conspiracy theorist who's reaction when his sister phoned him to tell him that his own son had died was to say it was proof of his theories.

It was an attempt to scientificalise vampires' aversion to crucifixes. The idea was that it is the power of faith that repels them. Any faith will do as long as it is sincerely held. This bloke had faith in the Soviet Union (where religion was technically forbidden (put _very_ simply)). Therefore the vamps are being tepelled by his faith, not communism. Which scuppers any atheist trying to repel a Dracula.
