Old dubstep: good shit New dubstep: different, but equally good shit I think the main difference is that artists back then were figuring out how this stuff worked, only getting their toes dipped into this new thing. New dubstep is very loud and jarring sure, but it is still fuckin bop and gets your blood pumping. Old dubstep is a breath of air, new dubstep is a shot of adredaline.

Classic dubstep was much more underground, and felt like it’s evoking a feeling, a vibe. It focussed much more on the baselines, which is why some people can say something is missing from the old dubstep (that would be some mid/high range frequencies). Modern dubstep is more...experimental? Ngl I’m much more of a classic dubstep fan, only some modern melodic dubstep can get me going nowadays. To me, it sounds wayyy too chaotic, like a bunch of sounds rammed together at 140bmp to some kick snare loop. There’s not much feeling, or vibe, to it like there is classic dubstep. More just “no one has heard this sound before, it sounds pretty bad but it’s unique, and you can headbang to it, let’s put it in”. That’s my two cents. Don’t get me wrong, I ain’t hating on modern dubstep, I don’t want them to stop making shit or anything lol, I just prefer the old school stuff

@@j.a.g1291 I agree, because 5e classic ones were experimenting, they followed he rules of what was already established with other music types, which made the music make more sense in a way. Modern dubstep is the development stage to what dubstep ill become, and we’re already seeing how. Look at Mick Gordon or riot’s work, they mix dubstep with metal and it goes amazingly, some of my favorite music. The ramming shit together at 140 beats per minute is what I’d make after 40 minutes in fl studio kek.

And for me, that's one of the main things I find really cool about classic dubstep. It's music from the 'awakening' stage of the dubstep genre. I like my share of both classic and modern dubstep but I do sometimes miss the iconic 'wub wub wub' sounds that once defined this genre...

There are good things to come out of it like melodic dubstep, and brostep did introduce me to dubstep, so there's a bit of a nostalgia factor for me, that 2012 - 14 era. Plus there is some legitimately good brostep like Au5, Fractal, Xtrullor. I generally don't fuck with riddim though, guess I'm already becoming a boomer but riddim just sounds too ear grating to me most of the time. 1 million different sounds and basslines, but none of them really come together in a pleasant way for me.

It doesn't matter what generation you prefer, y'all should respect both, especially classic dubstep. In the classic, the samples, technology and techniques were pretty limited yet these artists managed to make a whole song out of it. Modern it's much more elaborated and heavy (most of the times), with much more quality, samples and vocals. Yet, without mattering all of this, both are amazing. Without Classic Dubstep we probably wouldn't be here and all these artists wouldn't exist in the first place. And without the revolution of Skrillex (Modern Dubstep), this genre most probably wouldn't have the attention it has from the new generations.

The thing is the examples of modern dubstep used in the vid are almost all of artists using old 2012-2014 styles, like literally one is a tribute to 2014-2015 Virtual Riot, so the differences are not even that extreme. "Modern" dubstep is much better exemplified by artists like Svdden Death, Samplifire, Calcium, and Zomboy. All these artists are still very mainstream/generic sounding and still push the limit on sound design/arrangement way more than the examples do. And that's not even getting into modern sub genres like riddim (ie: Infekt - Rumble) and hybrid bass (ie: Dirty Audio - Bahebe).
