I had the privilege to attend the studios of WOS in the 80's a number of times. I also had the pleasure of working for the wonderful family company of Ballantyne's. I had the honour of having my 19th birthday drink or two in Ron Casey's office hosted by Lou Richards, uncle Doug and few other personalities with dad, when Lou heard it was my birthday. I was in awe of all of them, true gentlemen and experts in their sporting topics. Wonderful debate with Lou over who was tougher, NRL/Rugby Union or US NFL players, Lou provided a balanced argument, suffice to say I learnt a lot.Great memories, great days..

Looks like 1962 or 63 from the EJ Holden in the Dustings ad background. Good that Charles Hayes caught these samples of live to air TV that were usually lost early on. Surprised they had a greyhound segment on WOS.

It's a 64 EH, you can tell by the shape of the back mudguard, the EH had the vertical tail lights.
@johnd8892

@@cudgee7144 I would still say EJ since there is the EJ only Holden badge on the bonnet where the bonnet lifts and there is no signature EH centre vertical grille divider trim piece. The EH vertical tail lights are not able to be clearly seen due to the angle it is taken from, but the EJ front identifiers are clearly front and centre at 0:04.

@@johnd8892 I stand corrected my friend. This is what happens when i make hasty comments without taking all things into account. You certainly know your early Holdens, my first car was an EH panel van, wish i still had it, sold it for $200.

Like yourself, we all grew up with world of sport and Lou, Jack and the team seemed so familiar to us all. I have never seen this clip and have wondered what else is in the ch 7 archive as we only get the standard best of world of sport. There must be more???

The panel - Jack Dyer, Lour Richards Bruce Andrew, Jim Cleary, Woofer, et al. Club Corner with the coaches. Handball competition. The woodchop. The roller cycling. Tug of War. Cricket with Doug Ring. Bowls with John Dobbie (Draw to the Jack and Drive). Soccer with Freddie Villiers. Uncle Doug with the sponsor's gifts and the live to air ads. Jack Elliot holding forth about racing - definitely not happy with the VRC about something. You knew every segment from its theme music. Then we switched over to Channel 0 for the VFA footy.

Used to serve Lou at the CBA when I worked for them in Toorak. He lived just down from the Toorak road shops in a 1960’s/70’s apartment. Drive a Merc at that point I think (this was the late 1980’s).

Remember the wood chop ? Wasn't TV Ringside on HSV as well ? Never forget watching as a kid when the former champ Jimmy Carruthers was refereeing a match. One of the boxers didn't agree with a decision that Jimmy made, became angry and made the bad mistake of swinging a punch at him .Carruthers, immediately, snapped back into fighting mode promptly belted the offender so quickly and so hard that he sent him through the ropes and out of the ring. Needless to say, the crowd went wild to see such on the spot justice being so expertly delivered. Carruthers was notorious for his lightening speed.
