Soooooo happy you got back to CHIC!!! One of my favorite bands of all time! Super producers Bernard Edwards on bass and Nile Rodgers on guitar - two of the most sought after producers of the 80s, 90s and 2000s. They produced so many artists and songs you’ve reviewed on your channel: David Bowie, the B-52s, Diana Ross, Sister Sledge, Rod Stewart, Madonna, the Power Station and most of all Duran Duran. (FYI: Nile Rodgers & Chic have been opening for Duran Duran on tour over the past few years - saw them back in September and it was an incredible performance by both bands!) Duran Duran has said they were heavily influenced by Chic when they were starting out in the business. John Taylor and Andy Taylor worked with Bernard to make the Power Station album and Nile produced one of Jay’s favorite Duran Duran tracks Notorious. You recently reviewed David Bowie’s Let’s Dance - another classic album and production from Nile! More Chic please! How about Good Times next? Love y’all!!!😊😊😊

Chic really nailed it on mixing disco, funk and pop. I think ya'll should do "Good Times" next. I have a suggestion for female Fridays: Another group that was excellent at mixing genres was the incomparable Beth Gibbons and her group Portishead. They were the leaders of the very cool Trip Hop movement in the 90s and it really has to be heard to be understood. I would start with their song Glory Box which would be a perfect anthem for female Fridays. Beth's voice will move you.

Niles Rogers is huge in the music industry. He cowrote Let's Dance with David Bowie and is still writing and producing with mainstream artists. He also plays guitar on their songs if they ask him. He did a great interview talking about the song Lay Me Down with Avicii. Prince even helped with a girl group he was working with. Avicii left and came back the next day to a song that had been recorded and ready for release. John Deacon from Queen had been sitting in on Niles Rogers and Chic practice. He came back to Queen with the bass line for Another One Bites the Dust.

David Bowie would have been a 1970’s relic if it were not for Nile Rogers who had a crazy family situation as in off beat type crazy. I can think of a few 1980’s rockers who would have had bigger solo careers after they left bands if they had worked with Nile Rogers such Peter Wolf of the J Geils Band. He had a magic touch. I highly recommend his autobiography if he want to learn about this massive talent.

Material was a band that Nile Rodgers appeared in many of their songs. "I'm The One" is a funky track from 1982 and Niles guitar is there to be heard. Tony Thompson from Chic is on the drums in Material. Actually Material did some great songs while together. If one is not familiar with them give them a listen. Start with "I'm The One" its funky. "Busting Out" is also a great song. Whitney Huston appears on her first recording ever doing "Memories" with them. A cover of Huge Hopper's song.

It took you a while but I'm glad you at least mentioned the violins. They were such an important aspect of the Chic sound. And it directly influenced another group, Soul II Soul, in the 80's and 90's. For me the highlight of this song i s the lead vocal by Alfa Anderson. She really shone here. But of course Bernard's bass and Nile's guitar are so syncopated and provide the backbone of the track. They were God level musicians in this era of the late 1970's and early 1980's.

Dance Dance Dance, Good Times, Everybody Dance are must do Chic tunes...So many memories from my teen years. Love it when you react to songs that make me stop and watch/listen, and that I actually know and love...

Here's another gem from Teena Marie, "Out On A Limb," where she showcases a different vocal style. However, let's not forget her classics like "Casanova Brown," "Portuguese Love," and "Young Love."

FINALLY, this group paved the way for early rap with their song Goodtimes which was sampled by the Sugar Hill Gang song Rappers Delight the first big rap hit in 1979.

Their songs are disco classics even to this day there are countless remixes that are played in clubs all over the world . When people say disco died , they are so wrong.
