I mean this when I say this as a 59 year old bass fisherman that fished tournaments my entire adult life. Bass tournament fishing is in its last lifecycle. Only the wealthy can afford a truck, a boat and tackle and all the electronics. And these people end up finding tournament golf is alot easier to do and u don’t need to care about using the latest technology graphs to compete. It’s over. It’s a very bad career choice unfortunately.

If you really look at boats . It’s a very small part of price increases. Especially in 18-19 foot class. None of those come with any FFS/SI units and the prices of those boats just in the last 4 years are up 10-20%.

I heard that! Just yesterday I went out on the kayak after work. Didn’t catch a single fish, had 3 bites, 2 goooood ones and didn’t set the hook. The Hydrilla has started coming up and it was annoying getting caught in the grass with my chatter and crank bait so I went to a Texas rigged craw with a half ounce weight but I only had 3 rods on my yak and they were all pretty soft and it felt like I would have hooked those fish if I had the proper rod to push through the plastic and lip 😵😵 The point is, I still really enjoyed myself just being on the water and casting at targets! And I’ll have the proper rig with me next time 😁

One of the nicest persons at Ranger boat. She made me feel as if I had known her all my life. I had a step cushion fly out of the boat, it had a bench seat. The rig was new, and I was sick for sure. She told me not to worry, we’ll fix you up. She made sure a new cushion was made and got to me in no time. You could almost see her smile when she spoke to you. It was not a burden to you. She’s the real deal. Thank you for all your help Connie, I still remember speaking to you, and how sweet and helpful you were. People as yourself made that company what it is. By the way, I spoke to you in 2001. Ron Peek

FFS is truly bad for the sport, its getting to the point of no return. I have it and agree its fun to use, but its too good for professionals to exploit ever advantage it can offer. Let the weekend fisherman take advantage but not professionals. Regular fisherman need to see how the professionals put together a plan of attack more than how to cast a dot on a screen.

I enjoyed the Podcast topics. I have to say I agree and disagree with some of the answers from Hank. My first fiberglass boat cost me around 18K. My new bass boat cost me around 75K with the basic electronics etc., etc. I feel that FFS is here to stay in tournament fishing whether you like it or not. Companies have invested major bucks in this technology and they are seeing it payoff for them big time. These companies are bigger than any fishing tournament trail that is out there and if these tournaments or fishermen want money coming their way, they will allow the fishermen to use it during a tournament. My biggest concern with any boat manufacture today is their Quality Control, they just flat out suck. I have owned several different brands of bass boats in my lifetime and in the past 5 years, I have seen the workmanship go south. Connie is probably doing a great job for Ranger but she is probably not in the plant building or inspecting every boat that comes off the assembly line. Went to my pads again today and got some more off of them, my biggest today was only a 6.10 on a Zoom all black worm.

Not the first time I’ve asked but nobody seems to want to answer it, with all the complaining about how expensive boats are getting and electronics are getting…are you, as an Elite or BPT angler, required to get a new boat each year? If it’s not the tour that requires it, is it purely sponsor driven? Same thing with your trucks? With as heavily as a lot of anglers modify your boat and trucks from the standard off the floor model unless you are actually required to get a new on every year it just seems like a horrible financial decision that keeps compounding with each year you fish. Also outside of your own personal modifications and additions to a boat, how different are they from year to year? Is it enough that it truly makes a significant and noticeable difference in performance or storage that warrants buying new each year?
