i rode an 84' yz80 for a few years, it was a decent bike. I always tell my nephew that being a dirt biker in the early 90's was a great time in So Cal, you could go ride anywhere in the hills and it wasn't a big deal. Def isn't the same laid back place anymore, I still take my truck out to my old riding spots from time to time just to see the old trails and jumps that people built with their tractors. It's all grown over but i can see it like it was yesterday :)

'90s was the era & Yamaha dirtbikes/sport quads are like Ford trucks. "All around" the best out there. Can't go wrong! Period.

Beautiful 80cc dirtbike for sure! Was fast an smooth but dominated by the KX80. I was diehard Kawasaki team green guy bk then an the KX80 was ahead of all other minis till '87 or '88. Nowadays, I ride mainly Yamaha utility.. & sport quads. Late 40s these days but will ride for life ..God willing! Get a bike an get out there!! #Yamaha #Maxima #Fox

Tony thanks for bringing back memories of the first new and water cooled bike I owned. I loved that bike. Two years later I bought a 1985 CR80R which was also a blast to ride. That commercial for the CR80R at Indian Dunes also brought back some cool memories when I used to ride there. 👍

Good memories indeed bro. I was very similar just a team green KX80 rider then but the CR & KX battled it out hard from '83-87 time-frame mainly. Loved all bikes. Then went 360deg for a Suzuki RM125 in spring '90 when my mini days racin' ended! Now its all Yamaha quads & dirtbikes..& Ford trucks 👍 to pull them filling my garage & driveway.

When the 80cc bikes started getting liquid-cooling and mono rear shocks I yearned for one. Around '83 is when I started following motorcycles in general. My dad bought a Honda Nighthawk 650 and got me an old Honda 70cc trail bike and a Yama 100 2-stroke of some kind. DT maybe? It was street legal. A couple years later my dad traded in for a V65 Magna. That thing would haul! And I finally got a new bike! An '85 XR 100. I kinda wanted a 80 2-smoker and if I had pushed it I would have gotten it but the reliability factor steered me towards a 4-stroke. WORST DECISION OF MY LIFE. I learned from then on that I needed to speak up for myself if I wanted something.

I'm from Queensland Australia 🇦🇺 I still have my 1983 CR80R was my first dirt bike I've had multiple people offer me $2000 to $3000 for it but I'll never sell it has too much sentimental value to me. I got it on my 9th birthday and I was frightened the first couple times riding it specially hitting power band felt so intense lol

I remember the 87 cr80 it was by far the fastest 80. In 86 the honda engine leap frogged the kx and in 87 dirtbike magazine said the honda cr 80 makes more hp per cc than any motorcross bike we have ever tested.

That is so funny. My 13 year old son is the same way! I'm 51 now and still have my 2 strokes. I bought him a 2013 Yamaha 300 grizzly 4 wheeler but only wants to on his PS4 with his friends. When I was his age I was always on my CR 80. Hard to understand?

We need a 1983 80cc shoot out!! Those photos bring back some great memories. I had the rm 80, loved it. But my friend had the kx. I couldn't understand why he could beat me around my own track, then I got to ride the kx. It was like cheating. Thumbs up if you wanna see an 83 shoot out!
