You are not alone 😉😎👍 I think Ron Moore's GINO was a complete mistake -.if he didn't want to do a continuation of Galactica (+ respecting the lore and mythos of Larson) then he should have made a completely different IP altogether! Just like The Last Jedi should have been a totally different film/franchise altogether. It is a great shame how GINO gets all the praise and awards that should have been given to the one and only Original Battlestar Galactica! 🤔😇😎😉🤩✌️👏👍

The original Galactica was classy, even when campy, and quite ground-breaking: women warriors; people of color as heroes; and some progressive themes. @@transitfan954 What most never talk about is that before getting the green light to do a full series re-make of this show, the network released a "Battle-Star Galactica mini series which, was pretty good. However, when they expanded it as a full TV series, I did not like it for many of the same reasons you stated. Also, an element from the original series which few people talk about is the fact that the Silions were a reptile species which had started to die off (with their leader in the pilot being one of the last) and this is why they made the mechancial robots.

I was initially excited for the reboot show but the human Cylons were a bad idea and you know they just made them human because it was cheap. No special effects needed to have a 'human' Cyclon on screen. But worse was the tone, oh boy they got all edgy and super dark. I bowed out when they did a rape scene, some Galactica crew raped a pretty human-Cyclon and it felt so sleazy and exploity putting that in the show. Just a shame because the cast, BGM and special effects were pretty good but the writing lost it for me.

This is great. I'm actually rewatching BSG1978 right now after upscaling the episodes to 1080p, and they do upscale extremely well. It's a testament to the skill of the cinematography given the ancient equipment of the time.

Thank you for another great episode - I was a huge fan as a kid. Watching this also confirmed a memory that I had started to think was false: I remember seeing Battlestar Galactica in the theatre, but everything I seemed to read since never made reference to that. I live in Canada, where you just confirmed that a cut-down version of the pilot was released in foreign markets - including Canada. Thanks for that!!!

That theatrical cut of Galactica is on DVD. It is separate from the complete series set.

In the US version at least, it was in Sensurround (that was a thing that Universal invented, some kind of sound thingie that caused vibrations so you "feel" the movie as well as see and hear it). BG was the 4th and final Universal film to use Sensurround. The first was Earthquake, then Midway, then Rollercoaster and finally BG. I saw all of those except for Midway, and IMO, it worked best in Galactica. When things exploded you felt it! (the most ridicuolous application was Rollercoaster)

I actually saw the movie in Boise. In Sensaround. Is a shame that was the last movie released with that technology.

@@mlawson7341 it was made for international release, but was enough demand for a US release as well. Well enough that they did the same thing a year later with Buck Rogers.

its kinda related. im 54 now so in the 70's I loved scifi and toys. though star wars was a big deal especially the toys my favorite memories was the Christmas I got (and very fortunate for the time. we were.........financially strapped) a bunch of Space: 1999 toys. till today I still remember that morning. I loved BSG, but then Space: 1999 was my fav.

In my child mind i feel like both Battlestar Galactica and Buck Rogers were on TV much longer than they actually were. Hard to believe both only had episodes to account for 3 years combined shows.

Yknow, it's funny you should say that because I've been rewatching all the Doctor Who series from the last 15 years and I swear down that all the actors, particularly Rose Tyler, were in more episodes than they actually are. I think maybe because when you originally watch them you have to wait a week between each episode and the anticipation prolongs the experience.

Thanks for the good researched revisited battlestar galactica. At that time me and my friends loved the three movis which were shon on german TV. We built Lego Models of the vipers and the galactica. Wow. What a wonderful time. Nowadays I see no more kids playing outside with models and selftmade laserpistols. They sit inside and play with their play-sony-xy-box for hours and hours. They sit inside staring at their smartphones... but that is another story.

Thanks for this. I loved this show as a kid and had a Starbucks Halloween costume when I was 8 or 9. My Dad wasn't much into Sci-Fi but he liked Lorne Greene from his Westerns so he did tolerate this show. I recall the toy Vipers and Cylon Raider were some of the last to fire hard plastic missiles before it was decided they were unsafe for kids.

You were lucky to own the Viper kit..when I first saw the series in 1980 I immediately rushed out to buy all the BSG model kits, but discovered they had already been discontinued and were very hard to find here in Australia...I took ten years before I was able own my first Galactica model.

I was a jr in high school when the movie came out. We had a cheap theater in town and when it was there I saw the movie 5 times. My buddy was a Princess Ardala fan, I was a Wilma Deering fan. We'd argue over who was hotter. I've tried watching the pilot to relive some of the nostalgia, but just can't seem to do it. There is something about how a teen boys brain is wired.

If you watch the "classic" A-Team intros, when Dirk Benedict (the original Starbuck) was shown as Faceman, he's shown in a Wallyworld-like Universal Studios, standing next to a Cylon. He gestures at the Cylon as if to say "hey, haven't I met you before?" I also remember the Universal Studios tram tour - as human captives, all on board the tram were taken aboard a Cylon landing craft before being rescued by a Colonial soldier with a laser pistol. Great memories!

Saw it as a kid first run. I remember being at Kmart and wanting the toys before the series was aired and my Mom said: "How do you know you'll like it?" And I said: "Oh, I WILL!!" Loved this series. Watching it later on, the last few episodes got campy.
