Hi! My 59 has a 12V system and I am using a step down reducer to deliver 6V to semaphores. The semaphores coils are heating, even using 6V feed. I can't measure It, but the temperature can reach 50-60ºC in the coils. Is It OK or i have a problem? Thanks!

Probably not, I would get a better reducer

old bug so cool. flashing semaphores double cool. I had a friend who when we were in high school early 70s in okla would go around buying VW bugs, load as many as he could on trailer, rent truck and haul them to Cali. to sell for way more then what he paid, turn in rental truck there and fly back home. he made loads of money cause all the hippies there wanted VW's. had 1 in school but winter in one was crazy. I'd be scrapping ice off the INSIDE of windshield to see as heaters weren't that great 😂😂😂

Hi Chris, I just watched your semaphore vid again. I have installed the same Flashing bulbs and they work fine. However I still have an issue with the RH semaphore being sluggish in coming out. The left hand side pops up fine. The right hand one is sliggish and only comes up at 45 degrees sometimes. I have a 6V 1958 beetle. Any suggestions about how to fit this issue? Cheers, carl

I was just thinking about these lately so its nice to see your vid and the great mod. None of my 4 VWs had these and i wish they bring them back for all cars! Modern cars have the blinking marker lamps at the rear of the front fender but semaphores are superior! Wish I could find a kit and install them on my car.

My cousin had a Beetle in the late 1980's with the smooth semaphore turn signals ( They Didn't work ) I had a 69 Chevelle SS and was more of a muscle car guy but to me those unique turn signals made that little Beetle cool... Every time I see one parked or on the road I catch myself looking that pop out blinker housing & his is the first & last I've ever seen until now.. Lol

Hi Chris Love the videos and the great advice, have recovered all the seats in my Bug using your handy videos. I haven't pulled my semaphores apart yet to check whether I need 36mm or 42mm, so I was wondering if you know off the top of your head which would be the correct ones for a 1960 Bug? Keep up the good work.

Measure the voltage going to the working side. Check it on the funky semaphore. If it's lower, even a bit, that's the problem With only 6 volts to play with, a drop of 1 volt is 16%. I've had to replace a few 69 year old wires that had just plumb run out of electrons to give

Thank you for your advice. I actually had another look later. ( after my first comment using WD 40 .Voltage is OK. But after looking at the mechanism and spraying a little more in the right place is now works fine. @@MFP0666

Could anyone tell me if there's a "proper" way to manually open the semaphores? I have one that just opens when you push the top of it (installed on the car). The other seems "stuck" but I know there's a latch that must be pushed to let it open. I'm guessing my other has a broken latch, but if I want to remove the intact semaphore from the car, how to I access the latch? Thanks in advance for any help!

Look for something called a voltage reducer (12v to 6v). They sell them relatively cheap. I think about $6-10 per reducer.

Hi Chris. Not sure how adding these LEDs don't affect the draw issue. I installed LED halos for front signals, and now the Semaphore (still with the incandescent bulb) won't operate/flip out. Mechanic says with LED halo signals, there is not enough of a "draw" to activate the Semaphores anymore. I'm stuck for a solution. They don't think adding a pair of resistors will fix it. Should I try anything?

So if you have flashing turn signals installed, how do you stop the semaphores from jumping up and down with the flasher can? Oh and i cant seem to find those particular replacement leds. Do you have a link or a specific item name to search for? Im from oz too.
