I take it as an allegory of man making "too much noise" in the world and disrupting the natural balance. Nature (the volcano) eventually takes back its balance no matter how catastrophic. Brilliant Mr. Vinton, RIP.

So I’m 25 yrs old and the first time I saw this was over 15 years ago when my mom bought several old VHSs from a goodwill with random cartoons and films recorded on them. It was one of my absolute favorites, I adore Will Vinton’s work. Truly a talented film maker and artist.

Glad I'm not the only one to be seriously freaked out by this as a kid. I've continued thinking about it periodically since, oh, the late '80s? Glad to finally see it again 20 years later and be able to understand what it's about this time around.

walkingtree9 - yeah - Will Vinton's ex-wife was a teacher in Portland Oregon in the 70's & used to bring all kinds of his stuff in & show us kids - very cool - she told us that this film was made because he didn't want to waste all the hard work from the beer commercial set😘

woah, talk about a glimpse into the future of things ahead of its time, i dare say it the future brought us this but it also makes us think about the past alot, which is a good thing let us not forget our humble beginings. like such as the animals they were making their music here before us as shown in the video.

I first saw this film in my kindergarten class, and it scared the living bejezzus out of this five-year-old, so much so that the next time my teacher showed it, they made sure to send me out of the room. Of course, I didn't get the context of the film (all I knew was that a volcano was destroying everything and killing everyone), but now that I get it, and now that I look around at how we abuse our planet, it's just as scary as ever to me. (No screaming or crying though).

Phenomenal! I still marvel at the detail of the animation and its ability to create a whole new world, 38 years after this was made. I first saw this in college as part of the "Fantastic Animation Festival." This song rang in my ears for a long time, and its growth into hard rock sends the message that you have to harmonize with nature in everything you do, not go against it, or it will fight back and consume you. A powerful message against climate change today. Thanks for posting this.
