Thanks for saying that about Matt's voice and bass. He's gotten so much unnecessary hate and comparison to Avi simply because he's not Avi and doesn't sing as low. A lot of people didn't give him a chance and moved on when Avi left or after hearing him once in the beginning not taking into account that he was only 24 when he joined the group and his voice was still maturing. He's grown a lot with ptx. Hes got a beautiful soulful voice and i think blends a bit better with the other's than Avi did.

I listen to Pentatonix and people who review them because Pentatonix singers are geniuses. They truly shine again. However, in this instance, YOU, Sir, are the genius. Your ability to not only determine each sound identifying who sings them, but also reproduce these sounds on piano and voice (your high notes that Mitch sang for instance) is absolutely astonishing! You continue to impress me. I don't know why you would offer your audience to skip your analysis. We're here to listen to the genius that comes out of your mouth. Thank you.

Absolutely Love Come Along, such an upbeat feel good song, with obvious Alice in Wonderland references, so energizing! He is amazing at it. Doing that is actually one of my coping skills, lol. When I need to clear my mind, relax, or just calm down, I pick a PTX song, pick a singer, and follow their voice through the whole song. Pick a different song/singer and repeat as needed. The fan cam video of "Aha!" at the Star Vista in Singapore is a Pentaholics' treasure. The audio and video quality are basically terrible, so you have to be previously aware of the quality of their voices and pretty much imagine how fabulous they sound. But Avi shredding the woofers and our innately shy Mitch going all diva on stage after a couple of Red Bulls is a singular moment in PTX history, captured in this one cherished video.

From what I understand it was something she HAD to do to compensate for a physical "defect" in her mouth that needed surgery to correct. It wasn't really healthy for her singing though so she obviously had the surgery and had to relearn some techniques because she no longer needed to compensate for the "defect" she had. She slipped quite a bit back and forth at first but by now she's perfected her new/proper technique. 😅👍

One of my favorite obscure Matt moment's is in their cover of "When the Party's Over." An example of how much Matt and Scott can sound the same is when this song came out they weren't able to release the video at first so all we got was audio and a lot of fans assumed it was still Scott singing the solo and not Matt taking over. So chances Scott recorded the bass in the studio while Matt sang solo are pretty high. Some people also mixed up the switching solos between Mitch and Kirstie when we couldn't see the video.

Around 5:30, when Matt has the melody and you are wondering if he may also be singing the bass or if Scott takes over -- They record each voice separately and do sometimes add layers in the studio version, so it is possible it's Matt on both parts. However, they always want to be able to sing an arrangement live, and Scott often switches to bass when Avi or Matt has the melody, so it's just as likely to be Scott. Here's a good-quality live version where Scott is definitely doing the bass -- kzitem.info/news/bejne/upmN2KCMjKeKgXo

The other day, I was rewatching a bunch of your videos, thinking, "I wonder if I should request Voctave, again?" And, what should appear the next day? One of my favorites! And just last night, I was thinking, "Well, now that he's broken through the Avi/Matt wall, I wonder how soon he'll get around to 'Can You Feel the Love Tonight'?" And here we are! Every time you've talked about the seamless handoffs between Kirstie and Mitch, I've thought of this song. There is a spot, a bit before the "glorious" middle section (I think of it as the organ part) where Kirstie is singing the melody line and then Mitch picks it up. I swear, until I happened to be paying close attention to the video one day, I thought it was all Kirstie! My ear isn't nearly as astute as yours, but even knowing they trade-off, I still think it's all Kirstie when I'm not paying attention to the video! (You can't imagine how satisfying it is to know that you're no longer held back from such a large part of their catalog!)

Best. Birthday. Present. EVER!! Thank you, Sir H.!! Watching your reaction as this song unfolds was priceless! Most of us knew what was going to happen, and it's always fun to see the shock and awe we experienced, mirrored in others. I absolutely adore this version of this classic Disney song. As you mentioned, all of their arrangement and stylistic choices are perfect. As an avid listener of Pentatonix since their stint on The Sing Off, I had the foolish notion that I was becoming immune to "Mitch Slaps". Of course, Mitch instantly showed everyone that he still has some tricks up his sleeve. Not only did he nail that high note, the run back down to normal human range was stellar. As for Matt, the more you hear him sing, the more you'll be blown away by his range and the power he has in his upper register. I am also very impressed by Kirsten's seamless "lead" when it came to the key changes. Her fast vibrato mixed with her belts gives me chills every time. Just for fun when you watch this back, pay attention to the look on her face right before the last key change and slap from Mitch. To me, it looks like she has an almost mischievous smile as if to say "They have no idea what's comin' up....." Thank you again for another entertaining reaction and analysis. I’ve listened to this version many times and as always I never hear what you hear until you point it out. Fascinates me on every reaction. This is one of my favorites because Kirstie is featured more heavily than usual. I love the wall of sound it contains too. The Prayer has a lot of powerful harmonies and Amazing Grace features Matt more prominently with some Kevin as well. There are a lot of really good live versions of their songs out there (Hollywood Bowl 2022 and Christmas Live Stream 2023), if you want less studio mixing. I recently listened to a podcast with their sound engineer and that was interesting. Sounds to me like he layers their voices more than anything. I’m sure he touches up a few other things as well but he’s very careful not to mess with their sound too much. Watching their Evergreen album documentary also gives a lot of insight into their recording process. I think you might find that interesting. Thank you for another great reaction. 🙌

They play this version at Disneyland. I’ve heard it a couple times just walking in Main Street and when people are waiting for fireworks to start. They’ve performed at the parks a few times, as well, and I think Scott helped the Luminous night show at Epcot. They also did the holiday tv special through Disney two years ago, so they have a lot of contact with Disney in general. There’s an awesome audio only version of When You Wish Upon a Star!

I adore the ethereal, angelic sound of the “glorious section” in this song and so few reactors talk about it. Thank you!

Another great reaction Sir Hairless! I like this one but it's not one of my absolute faves. As always, though, your analysis makes me hear things I haven't before and makes me appreciate the music much more. I do like the Mitch slap in this one and it was during the 'mullet Mitch' phase, which was one of my favourite of his many looks! I enjoy Voiceplay, Home Free and Voctave too but I do genuinely think PTX are the master arrangers in the a cappella world, partly because of their 6th member, Ben Bram. What did you think of the key changes? Three is I think, quite a lot for a fairly short song. Just to say, yes Matt does hand the bass line over to Scott when he sings his solo bit - and actually I think if you watch the video again and focus on Scott you can see he's singing the bass line. Did you notice their outfit colours were emulating Lion King characters? Matt - Timon, Scott - Pumbaa, Kirstie - Nala, Kevin - Simba and Mitch - Zazu Thank you for what you said about Matt - I think you're absolutely spot on. A lot of people moaned when Avi left but personally I think it was the best thing for PTX. Without that happening, we wouldn't have had Avi's brilliant solo work and we also wouldn't have had PTX with Matt who brings a lot of different things to the PTX party. Yes, he's not a basso profundo former opera-trained bass like Avi, but he has a much bigger range (wait till you hear his falsetto high note at the end of Joyful Joyful live at the Evergreen Experience! You should definitely do that one this Christmas if you do Evergreen kzitem.info/news/bejne/tqlutqxqiXOknaw). The rapping and beatboxing that he and Kevin do together on that one is so (appropriately enough!) joyful! Matt also has a beautiful, smooth voice when he solos. In particular I love his solos in Mad World, The Sound of Silence and Amazing Grace - all of which are hopefully on your upcoming list! I can't wait for you to react to Hallelujah, The Prayer and Aha live in SIngapore (that really is a Imogen Heap moment of course!) as those are my favourites. As always, I'm really looking forward to your next PTX reaction! You are really increasing my musical knowledge and I find the way you convey that information very engaging, so thank you Sir Hairless! 🙂🤩👍👏

The key changes are very clever! They go down a minor third to start with, which then means two more standard key changes rising up a step = back to where they started 🎶 I mentioned this in response to another comment - I know in the video Scott is seen singing the bass for consistency, but for a studio version they could still use Matt's voice (I don't think that would be out of the realms of possibility!) Yes the outfits are great And certainly does sound like there's a lot of Matt era stuff to get to in the future And Avi stuff still Thanks, as always!

You called it. They did mix it a little bit. That's not just the chorus at the end, but the chorus of the movie version. And they do it back in the same key they started the song in. They go from A major to F#/Gb then truck drive it up to Ab and finally back to A before that last section.

You pointed out a few things that I didn't catch, mostly what Kevin was doing because he's always so pitch perfect and exquisitely timed that he blends in with the others almost to the point of "invisibility" (for lack of a better word, even though we're talking about sound, lol). Thanks for that! Also "Merry Mitch-Slap" was hilarious and I love it! 😂 BTW, I'm going to recommend you do a "Christmas in July" thing (yes, that's actually a thing if you didn't know) if you're planning on going through more of PTX's Christmas hits because they have such a ridiculous amount of them, to the point that they had an animated video made to make fun of themselves for it once, no joke. (Poor Floof.) 😅

I reaaaallllyyyy reaalllyyyy want you to react to their “Pure imagination/Christmas time is here” mashup. Though it’s quite weird to react to Christmas song before Christmas 😭😂 Minor iv chord or half dim ii chord ALWAYS gives me goosebumps and pentatonix did it in the most angelic smoothing way. Also i hope you react to their original album someday. There’re some goodies in it :)

I'm obviously missing *LOTS!* I choose to blame it on my inadequate headphones! More please...keep 'em coming!

O.K., you've mentioned Imogen Heap in a couple of reactions, and PTX are fans of hers. They have done a full blown, costumed, choreographed, music video cover of her "Aha!" hit. But the recording of that song you really *must* see/hear is the live fan-cam video "Pentatonix "Aha" Live at the Star Vista - Singapore" not the best quality video, but the only copy known to exist! The fan that recorded it has the whole concert on KZitem! Here is the link for the song: kzitem.info/news/bejne/wopotKFqn4uefGksi=YMs3S9vAlhbRGTGQ Would love to see your reaction, please! *Beware the Mitch-slaps!*
