Claude MONET is one of the founding fathers of the impressionist movement with the painter Auguste Renoir. He became very interested in rendering light on water after discovering Turner's paintings. Based in Giverny, he stayed there for more than forty years and painted landscapes seeking to capture a fleeting moment of nature, and not to represent it as a state of mind. He created and painted his famous "lily pond" by capturing the present moment, that is to say a fleeting reality that will have already changed an hour later. Light plays an essential role in suggesting an impression or emotion captured by the human eye.
