Clavipectoral fascia gross anatomy - Extension , attachments , structures piercing medical animation
The clavipectoral fascia is a dense fibrous connective tissue layer found in the anterior thoracic region. It is situated deep to the pectoralis major muscle and superficial to the subclavius and pectoralis minor muscles. This fascia plays a crucial role in separating the muscles and providing support in the region.
Extension:
The clavipectoral fascia extends from the clavicle above to the axillary fascia below. Laterally, it attaches to the coracoid process of the scapula, and medially, it blends with the fascia covering the first two ribs.
Attachments:
Superiorly, the clavipectoral fascia attaches to the anterior surface of the clavicle and the costoclavicular ligament.
Inferiorly, it connects to the axillary fascia.
Laterally, it attaches to the coracoid process of the scapula.
Medially, it blends with the fascia covering the first and second ribs.
Structures piercing the clavipectoral fascia:
Several structures pass through or pierce the clavipectoral fascia, including:
Cephalic vein: It passes through the clavipectoral fascia and drains into the axillary vein.
Thoracoacromial artery: This artery pierces the fascia and further divides into multiple branches that supply the pectoral and shoulder region.
Lateral pectoral nerve: This nerve pierces the fascia to innervate the pectoralis major muscle.
