My impressions of the Jot2 vs the Singxer SA-1 both volume matched to the 0.1mv level, I found that the Jotunheim 2 was a bit more warm and colored, a little more of a cohesive feeling, with more accentuated dynamics and body to the sound. While the Singxer SA-1 was definitely more forward in the mids, it has more width and has cleaner images and seperation; this helps bring forward more microdetail which may not have been as apparent on the Jotunheim 2. I think that while the Singxer does exhibit a slight warmth I would consider it more neutral than the Jotunheim 2 tonality wise, which is a bit influenced by its more incisive nature. Overall the Singxer has a more transparent sound without coming across as sterile or boring, it's more of an incisive and refined sound, while the Jotunheim 2 is a bit more of a raw, warm sound. At the end of the day both are good amps, but just like headphones, you'll have people who prefer HiFiMan and then people who prefer Audeze. Same sort of thing applies here. Ofcourse the difference between any two amps is never even close to the difference between two headphones so, we are talking small but quite noticeable differences that you'll feel more over the course of a short listening session. The biggest difference out of all, is if you are considering either the Jotunheim 2 or Singxer SA-1 - if you have anything (headphones, IEMs etc) with only single ended cables, if they are reasonably sensitive - you are going to get noise from the SE out of the Jotunheim 2. You aren't going to get any noise out of the Singxer SA-1 in any situation. This to me is ideally going to be more important to some people than the difference in sound, as both sound very good - just in different ways.

Hi! thank you for the review. I'd like to ask you an opinion. I only listen to jazz, lots of brass :), and I'm looking for a sort of definitive amp which is smotth and not fatiguing. I was looking for tybes but havinh low impdence headphone so far I'm worried about matching. I live in Italy and I find schiit a bit too expensive in here. I was aiming to lake people g111mkii but I'm not convinced yet. Even the Eufonika h5 tube amp is interesting. can you help me please? thank you. Luca

if you favor the tone of the Magni over the Jot2 then you should take a look at the Asgard 3, its a predecessor of the Magni but still shares the same relaxed warm nature

The IEMagni is more in the clean end of Schiit stuff, where I believe the Magni 3+ is discrete like the A3. I do really like the A3, but I’ve settled on the Singxer for my solid state solution. Currently, I have a Valhalla 2 if I want to play with tubes.

Nice job, but what headphones did you use? What cables? All your impressions are kind of meaningless without clarifying that. If you use $10 earbuds, they will all sound the same, but High end cans will give you the discernment needed to parse the differences. Just saying.

True. HE6 was one of the main things. Probably OG Nighthawks. Can’t think of what else at the time. Cables…. Probably Hart System, perhaps the stock Hifiman cable. Sorry, working off memory. Have now moved on first to the Singxer, now to a Burson 3xp. However, I’m finding that I may be more of a tube person… I don’t know if any of that is helpful, but there you go.

I have a budget right now of 300 dollars, and planning on buying the g103-S for my dt880 600 ohm. How does the g111 compare to the g103-S apart from the more port options on the back? I mean is it worth saving up and buy the g111 instead? And one more thing, I'll be using a zen dac v2 with my amp so will this be good pair you think? (Kind of new to this stuff.) Btw: On the back of the lake people g103-S, the 2 ports on the back is for RCA right? Just wondering cause it's not colored.

I haven’t heard the 103, so I can’t really comment on sound differences, but generally, Lake People stuff seems pretty well regarded. Looks like it should have an appropriate amount of power. Yes, those are RCAs on the back. Should be fine with the Zen DAC. I would imagine that it will be quite a noticeable upgrade.

I'll be getting the G103-S. The S stands for Standard and P stands for Professional. The S got the unbalanced and P balanced.

Well, I have the G103-S with 600 Ohm. I kinda needed to pair it with a tube for it to shine. I feel like you can hear that it doesn't have discrete components, the treble seems to be a bit too quick in reaction, especially with PCM audio. I think going discrete will be worth which the G111 has. Also the G103-S without the tube in front, surprisingly had a bit trouble with powering the 600 Ohm dt990. With the tubes in front, power was plenty, probably overwhelming the ears.

@@booom4849 I got the G103-S for 3 weeks or so and am in love with it. You only need to give it time and get used to it. On the day it got delivered, I didn't like it much but after few days to a week, it's worth it. The treble is supposed to be smooth without harsh/ The DT990 is the least efficient of the DT series. I ordered the DT880 600 ohm. Will keep you updated if you want. My Amiron Home does sound very nice on the G103-S, sibilance smoothed too.

@@browsing8866 Yeah, I have it since a year or so, thinking about an upgrade. Maybe it's a dt990 thing, but I felt it had trouble with the power when boosting the bass. But that totally depends, what signal you plug into its input. As I said, with some tubes, power wasn't lacking anymore, and bass got problematic in a sense it got too deep cause that's what tubes do. Overall, I also like the G103 very much, I just thought going discrete could make a difference, in the experience where I have switched some op-amps to discrete ones gave me that smooth presentation without the need for tubes, which are not all good because of their extreme bass.

What are the 3pins balanced or unbalanced? They are called XLR too regardless how manuy pins? I have the K5 Pro and do like to add either the G103 or G111.
@MrAyrit

I think xlr is just the style of connection. Dual channel 4 pin xlr is balanced. 3 pin is a ground and the right and left channel, so it is not balanced. That is my understanding of it anyway.

@@MrAyrit Yeah, it's confusing. It's just I have the K5 Pro to use on my desktop so the G111 or G103 can be stacked as the k5P has line-in and line-out but the issue is, there is G103-S and G103-P and one of them got the 3pins.

Great review again love your enthusiasm, can you here the but coming, here it is 😁. You may have something wrong either with your Jot2 or somewhere else, maybe it has o t lower spec Dac cards built in and you have selected this rather than external, you see the Jot2 is a warming punchy amp, it isn’t harsh in any way whatsoever, harsh, hard nonono, for some it’s too old school smooth esp with the bifrost 2. See if someone can lend you another to try maybe? Kinda confused here

I don’t know if I can trust my current DAC ifi Zendac Signature (previously owned) to not bleed any DC, I’m upgrading to bifrost 2 if I see the right deal used, I’ll definitely try it then
