Great info. I have a cocker mix, when I got her I realized her tail had been docked. While she doesn’t have as deep of a crevice she does hold bacteria under her tail in a little pocket. I thought I was crazy at first trying to google how to clean this area but am glad I came across this video thank you!

Thank you so much for this information! I adopted an eight month old female French bulldog. My first female dog ever and I noticed she was scooting everywhere. However, I did have her glands checked and that was not the issue I did notice however that her vulva was pretty dry so I started putting some coconut oil on. It seems to help, but I never knew about cleaning out the tail pocket, so this is what I will be doing next. Thank you!

I’m doing my research to see if the French bulldog is right for me. I’ve own American bulldogs in the past and loved them so much I actually think they are the perfect breed for loving family dogs. They will snuggle for days on end cuddling and bed buddies! But they will also be up for a massive run and trail walk for many kilometres every day. I just love how tender their personality is. You need to be aware that you can seriously hurt their feelings by just looking at them angrily. So Make sure you remember that and train with love and discipline with love and understanding. There’s no need to teach this breed aggression all they need is kindness love and clear direction and be part of your family with young kids all the way through to them growing up American bulldogs are just the best. But now I’m older and not so active so I’m looking at the French bulldog. I really wanted to thank you for making this video. It’s really the best example of how to clean that tail pocket I’ve found. I’m searching specifically for that because I want to see what’s needed for their health as I really baby my animals and want to provide all the care they need. I’m one of those who will dive in headfirst to save my dog if another dog is trying to hurt them. I’d rather be bitten then my dog who might be seriously injured or get a panic disorder or become terrified of other dogs from such an attack. So again thank you so much for sharing how to clean properly. This would be no problem for me to keep clean. I was thinking it was more like anal glands. So I’m kinda relieved and happy to see if I don’t have to do that on a daily basis!! I’m still researching if the French bulldog is it a good fit for me so I’m still not sure because I need a dog who is relaxed likes to go on short walks little run if he wants to run at the park and likes to snuggle in bed and is a sensitive dog who loves to play and is OK in apartments since I live in 1300 ft.² but I have access to many beautiful parks in Vancouver British Columbia. I hope I can get one of these little cuties but only time and research will tell🙏🙏🙏🌺🙏🙏🙏

I just wanted to add here this is the first time I’ve ever learned about a tail pocket and I owned two large 110lbs American bulldogs. Both had no tail pockets. They had full long tails I NEVER chopped any part of any dogs I own. Other then getting them fixed because I wasn’t breeding and they were family pets. Also no one ever shared this was a possibility with me. And I don’t remember ever learning about it before I bought the dogs, but I was much younger and it’s very likely my so care research into the breed at the time was a little different to what it is now. Lol so that’s my fault. I’m just very lucky I pissed a breed back then that ended up being a perfect match and a surprisingly intelligent interesting dog breed. Ok I’ll stop I just love the breed. And they are not given the credit that’s due because of bad humans who treat them badly and gave them bad reputations:( such sweet tender soft personality of that breed would be just devastated if they were to be left out in the cold away from the family were treated in such a horrible manner. I can’t even think about it because they are so emotional. But they do have the power that needs to be respected because they are very powerful dogs and treated with love they have equal amount of power in physical strength as in emotional strength

@@foxwonderland8467 This only occurs in breeds with corkscrew (aka ingrown) tails so it was never a risk that your American bulldogs would have this issue. English and French Bulldogs are the main breeds with this issue.

It can take some time for the inflammation to go down. If it persists, make sure your vet checks it out because you may need a different type of medicated wipe. :-)

Hi Vicky, the best thing to do would be to have your vet check for a tail pocket when you bring your puppy in for it's exam. :-)

If it is that sensitive she may have an infection in there. I would recommend having your vet clean it out really good. They can then provide you with any antimicrobials needed to keep it clean.

Oh no! My baby has been very unruly and very unsettled for a few days and I’ve just been checking him to see if something is bothering him and I found on top of his tail and I ran my finger across there and it’s sappy wet. I’m guessing it’s probably infected. I don’t want to probe in it I guess I should take him to the vet or can I heal it at home?
@Dr.AngelB

You may need a topical antimicrobial to treat it. It wouldn't hurt to have your vet check it out. Best wishes.

Is baldness above the tail normal?
@Dr.AngelB
2 жыл бұрын
No, that normally occurs when the dog is rubbing their tail/hind end in an effort to decrease the discomfort. If you keep the tail pocket clean they will stop rubbing and the hair should grow back.

I clean my frenchie's tail pocket regularly and he still rubs on the ground. He rocks back and forth until his lipstic shows. Is there another reason they might rock like this?@@Dr.AngelB

He could have a yeast or bacterial infection in there making it itchy. You could check with your vet to see about getting a topical ointment to apply to it after cleaning it. @@moodlavender9561
