That is a great system. I too have had to clear out the craft room as it overflowed to 2 other rooms and the shed. Glad to say with help of two good friends I have now cleared the 2 rooms and shed. 😅 however still work required to downsize the paper craft ( a 2nd visit required to get the last corner cleared. Like you I have donated to art craft groups charity shop and bin. Big attempt now not to buy but use the items I have. Many thanks your points at the end are relevant. ❤❤❤

We love you! Don't worry about the naysayers who complain about your supposed "hoard!" All crafters have stuff we accumulate and have to go through from time-to-time. You are a very creative crafter and "thrifty" too with the children's books, etc. that you find to use in your junk journals! Very cool! I got motivated to clean out my craft room while watching you on this video! Thank you so much for the inspiration! I went from a very large craft room in my old house to a craft room about 1/4 the size in this new house! Yikes! Still going through a lot of stuff since our move. Kind-of liking the idea that my small craft room will hold all my favorite crafting supplies instead of all the supplies I've collected through the years for every crafting project I've ever done! So glad to get rid of all the extra stuff! I have even consciously packaged my crafting supplies in bags so that the next crafter will be excited to discover little "kits" of supplies at the local thrift shop! What goes around comes around! Love your videos.

Kym, this video is exactly the encouragement I needed! I love how real you are, and the struggles, the thinking, the reality of going through things, everything! And the mantra that helps me decide to let go of something is focusing on how those things will be a blessing to someone else. So much better than having tons of stuff looking at me and feeling pressure/guilt that I’m not doing anything with it. Some things just don’t work out after all with life and adjustments of time available. We need to remember the joy we should feel doing what we really want to do. I love doing crafts but I do sympathise crafting takes alot of space and doesn't really lend itself to minimalism because I find you need a 'Stash' to inspire a project be it fabric, wool or paper and here lies the quandary how much do you actually need. I think your junk journals are lovely by the way. So many crafts so little time, I still have to make time for crafting even though I have alot more time to spare now. 🤔 Your crafting space looks very organised now - especially the cupboard for the fabric will be great, my fabric is in a vintage tin trunk which is good but you have to take everything out to see what you have. Very helpful video but the ironic thing is I would be off to the thrift store you donated to, if it weren't for the mileage involved, to grab some of your stuff, there's no hope for me is there ??? 😏 Love to you and Frankie Xx 🐾💕🐾🐈

I, too, gave up several crafts because it was just too much to realistically ever do. Being able to cull down the amount of supplies I kept made my craft room a joy to be in again! I gave up: cross stitch, needle point, embroidery, plastic canvas, felt crafting (now called plushies), folk wood painting, jewelry making (I never liked it, either!), and more… oh, fancy cookie baking/decorating… wreath making/flower arranging…. Now I focus on card making, scrapbooking, stamping, and other paper crafts. I also paint ornaments and do Diamond Dots. I have found I do so much more when I’m not looking around my craft room feeling guilty for ignoring the bags of yarn and stacks of felt. I kept my sewing machine, but mostly for utility use these days. I really enjoyed your honest video. It was very relatable.

@@LoriA2024 wow Lori great job! I’ve given up a lot too BUT my mom passed away in June (this video was before then) so I inherited more stuff. I’m going to donate it as I spend a lot of time homesteading and can’t do it all!

@@thewellnesshomesteader I’m sorry for your loss. It’s hard to lose your Mom. My Mom passed away in early 2020 and I inherited all her craft supplies. It took me almost a year before I could (emotionally) go through the boxes (they stayed stacked in my garage). I was grateful to have already toned down my hobbies before, so I didn’t feel compelled to keep all her yarn, felt, etc. I did keep some wonderful things and I’m grateful to use them and think of her when I’m crafting. I donated my sewing machine and kept hers! Having a tiny craft room (new home in 2019) has actually been a bonus! I have to decide if anything new will fit. I had to give up a huge stash of stickers and Sizzix dies that didn’t spark joy (LOL) in order to upgrade to the Vagabond die cutter. In the past, I’d have just added a thrift store table to the room and kept all the stuff I didn’t want (including my original Sizzix machine). I was “this close” to buying a Cricut and I realized I’d have no room to keep it set up and I knew I’d never use it from the closet. We are a work in progress, huh? But we do learn.

Thanks for sharing. Like most other comments I’m in the same situation of to much room for my space. I have gone from a nook in the family room to a room in the shed (this may have worked except for the mice). I have now bought a sea container to modify for a craft room. I will now be able to leave incomplete projects and not have to set the table. However, my challenge will be to manage my “stuff” so I don’t out grow the container. Thanks for the video, just ignore the wingers, you can’t please everyone👍

My craft room is a mess too. Everything I have is a project that at the time I was going to do or make something. I keep collecting things and never seem to get around to doing any thing with the stuff. Buying more storage to house everything and things stuffed, piled, tucked away for someday, but someday never comes. It's madness. My eyeballs see things or I hear about something and my brain goes overboard with ideas. One little spark of imagination in the head can start me off on a whole new journey of buying for all the ideas swirling in my head. I have SO MUCH STUFF that it would take me 3 lifetimes to use it all. These crafting companies really know how to keep us buying and constantly dangling goodies under our noses. Plus we enable each other with , "Ooo, you just HAVE to get and try this or that". I've looked at tons of videos here on You Tube of crafters of scrapbooking, mixed media, sewing, journaling and planners, card making, you name it. And most of these craft rooms look like a pristine store layout. So much is stored and organized and so much of it is still in the original packaging unused, lined up, stacked , etc. Think of all the money spent on this stuff. It's mind boggling!!!!!! I realize a lot of us do it for pleasure, it CAN be therapeutic just making and creating, but in reality, if you are going to sell things, you'd have to work at it night and day for YEARS to recoup any of your time and money and the expense of all the machines and gadgets used to make things. It's the IDEAS that get us every time and the pretty or cuteness factor plays into it big time. I tried to analyze my addiction to the craft hobby, and basically the IDEAS of what I can make is the MAIN problem for me. Another thing is these companies are constantly changing product on us or have limited runs making us run out and buy the latest thing. Get it before they discontinue it. Then we get it and are afraid to use it because we may never get it or see it again. How many of us have been down THAT road? I realize these companies have to have fresh product to stay in business, but in reality, I tend to see the same old same old just reworked a little but and packaged in bright, shiny new packaging. I think we've all been lead down the primrose path, always chasing a dream that sometimes never happens. I don't mean to sound negative, but I think a WHOLE LOT of us have become disillusioned and are left feeling overwhelmed. Too much is worse than not having enough of what you need. Too many choices can just stunt our creativity and we are left feeling paralyzed by it. Through the years I've had SO many interests and have collected all the stuff to make stuff, I'm going to do a MAJOR, MAJOR purge of stuff I've had for over 30 years. I had rather do that now instead of leaving it to my children to do and end up throwing away things that would be useful to someone else. I'll probably donate 80% of it. Well, I've rambled on enough, but I think so many of us are in the same boat. Good luck if you're in a mess like me! Thanks for reading my thoughts!
