instead of washing off the last thin coat of rust, you can boil it in normal water to blue it which leaves a protective layer of black oxide over the metal.

Tetanus from rust? By ingesting? No way! It requieres a deep wound and dirt. Preferably with some traces of horse manure... but all fun aaide, great job!

It's just barkeepers friend. I use it to clean my stainless steel sinks and keep them shiny and nice. You don't need to wear eye protection with the amount that you used, but smart move either way.

It's not because bar keepers is Oxalic acid that pure O A isn't dangerous. Even BKF has different levels of strength. They also tell you to wear gloves and to only leave it for 1 minute in their powder in the golden container. You bragging here that you've never read nor followed directions but still advise a kid to risk his health is just crazy.

Did you say 3 months? Geez thats a long time. Evaporust or sand blaster in 5 min...
@dontquestionjustbelieve5757
2 жыл бұрын
Very good point but evaporust or sand blasting cost a lot more money then oxalic acid and the 3 months was because I forgot about it, you really only need to do about 1-3days for thin-ish rust and a week for the thicker stuff.

about the bi carb soda, it actually neutralize the oxalic acid (base vs acid). Seems a good idea to neutralize it before pouring/throwing. Other than that, good video.

Enjoyed your video but I'd like to add a couple of suggestions: [1] when I de-rusted 200 small steel boxes with phosphoric acid, I had a big tub of water constantly boiling to rinse them off with, the bubbling action helped with the rinsing and, when I fished them out, they dried almost instantly, and I had an air line handy to blow out the corners. And [2] I can't help but mention that, "An oven would of probably been better." Is some bad grammar that seems to be all too common nowadays: it should be "have" not "of". No big deal but worth a mention. All the best!

to dry the best option is acetone. It dries it off without heating it. Heat rapidly increases the speed of any possible corrosion

@@dontquestionjustbelieve5757 Oxalic would work much better since it has a lower pka value. It's actually quite strong for a 'weak' acid.

Worries about his eyes being burned but wears safety glasses meant for impact protection and not splash protection. Doesn't care about his feet being burned so decides not to wear shoes. Doesn't care about anyone around being burned so pours large amount on the ground for everyone to walk on. Cleans all of the rust out of the pan while completely coating the outside with the WD that coated the workbench. Zero chance of blindness, burns, or toxicity and dying here people, please move along. You're an accident waiting to happen sir.
