These are some excellent machines. They will last for many decades and provide reliable efficient cooling service. There’s nothing better than the sound of a classic reciprocating compressor or a famous GE rotary. Great job cleaning these units up and I hope they will last for quite some time.

It was around 1960 that GE changed the condenser and evaporator fans from a four blade to a five blade like this unit.

I think Friedrich had protective coatings on their condensers as well. I remember reading about it on Ken Horan's page about the 60s Quietmasters

Hoping one day you could show the cap replacement on the Airtemp. I have 16K 220V wall unit and according to Vann the whole unit has to slide inside to remove side panel for capacitor access behind controls! Thinking about just hanging a painting over it and getting a Mr Cool mini split. Not a job for one person.

That secondary condenser coil is crazy! My '56 hi thinline did not have that. It also had an S-series 4-pole compressor. That thing is in fantastic shape.

The 1957 1and1/2 HP unit was the first to use the auxiliary condenser, which is piped in series with the main condenser (from the 1957 GE service manual). In 1956 the 1and1/2 HP unit was still a Mugwamp.

I had no idea that rotary compressors were used that long ago and I also didn't know that spine fins were around then either I also dislike casement units goofy looking the small square long ones are an exception but the tall narrow ones nope I also love Jordan's channel

GE developed their own rotary and started using it in 1958 on the earliest Lo Thinlines. Frigidaire was using their Meter Miser rotary since the early 1950's.
