Very nice video. So refreshing to see a different view on the sensitivity of the sensor. It wont just break or damage if you are careful. Love your sense of humor.

Thanks for sharing this Rick, this was some really useful advice. I just got the Z6 a few weeks ago and I was one of those who was scared of even looking at the sensor directly jaja I'm now more confident about this.

Hey Rick. I did some looking and I still can't find those swabs/sticks I have for sale anywhere. I'm back home now from a trip and I just looked at what I have. The two sticks I have are for a full frame sensor and I think the other was for a m4/3 sensor. I'll give you a link to some photos I just took of what I have. The sticks/swabs have 'Sensor Swipe' labeled on them. They're basically just plastic stick with a rubber tip on the end that matches the size of the sensor. You wrap the pec-pad lint free cloth around it so the tip is totally flat (no wrinkles) and you secure the cloth to the stick temporarily with a rubber band or file folder label, whatever is easy to apply quickly and remove easily. You just keep reusing the stick and replace the cloth each time. There was a guy that had a photography business in Virginia or somewhere over there that was called Copper Hill and he used to sell kits, but I don't remember if I got mine from him or somewhere else (the swabs part). I can't find 'sensor swipes' like this for sale anywhere though, but maybe I'm not looking hard enough. Here are the images: photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-XsrgwLG/0/0da04fda/X2/i-XsrgwLG-X2.jpg photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-dtkNM4J/0/9eea6eff/X2/i-dtkNM4J-X2.jpg

Good job, you took out the 'scary' out of self sensor cleaning. BTW, Amazon has diff 'kits' for sensor cleaning, mentioning 10mm & 12mm. Would you please send the version number VSGO uses, so I can be sure to get the right one for my Z7ii? Thanks in advance!

I have a Panasonic Lumix G9M2 mirrorless camera. Quick question. Do I clean the sensor with the camera turned on or off? Some say on to lock the sensor others say off. Bit confused. Also do I turn the image stabilization on or off? In all the videos I have seen these questions are not addressed. Help/Advice please.

Great video Rick, with the Z series cameras I have to clean the sensor way more than my D850, for obvious reasons so you have to get used to it. Glad the Z series has an IBIS lock when it's turned off the way you were prodding it. I thought at one moment you were about to turn the camera on though😂

I still have the full frame swab kit that I bought awhile back. Same concept as what you're using but the swab is reusable and you just replace the sensor cleaning cloth each time. I buy the cloth and the fluid separately and just keep reusing the 'stick' part. Photographic Solutions sells those items I need. Anyway, it's the same thing you're doing but I can reuse the stick and it just makes it a little more affordable overall because the cloth pieces for cleaning the sensor comes in a large pack and of course the fluid goes a long way.
@rickvestuto

Oh ? What's the name of the kit, please?
@ThePhotographyHobbyist
5 жыл бұрын
Rick Vestuto I tried to find the ‘stick’ I have online but I think what I have is from long ago when ‘Copper Hill’ used to sell those kits. All I do these days is buy the fluid and cleaning pads like this: photosol.com/products/ The cloths wrap around the swab stick I have and I just use a rubber band or file folder label to secure it temporarily. When I’m done I throw out the cloth/pad and that’s it. I have more cloths/pads and fluid for future use and of course the stick that has a rubber tip to use again (with cloth wrapped around it). If I find that stick I’m talking about which is just plastic with a rubber tip, I will post it.

All camera manufactures put a thin plate of glass over there sensors whether or not there an anti-aliasing filter or not otherwise the pixels would be exposed and you wouldn't be able to clean them Thanks for stopping by
